"Umbra you seem so happy most of the time. But why how this place seems kind of glum"

 

"Ehhh...? Who's Paul?" Umbra asks. You could practically hear her pouting. You are unsure if you should tell her that the pair of you were eating the remains of a human.

As you voice your thought on the stairwell to your right, you walk up to it try your keycard again. Locked. You sigh. Why was everything so broken? You turn around, and to your right in another set of double doors. You look for a key card reader but there is none in sight. Instead, there seems to be a keypad in it's place.

"What's there to be sad about? I'm finally out of my room! I've never been out before, and it's all thanks to The Incident!"

What will you do now?

"Hey..what is this incident anyway? You keep mentioning it"

 

"Heeeheheheeee.." Umbra laughed into your ear. "Were you asleep when it happened? It was only a few hours ago. All a of sudden, the locks on all the Unknown rooms just... stopped working, and we were let free. The humans are either dead, or hiding somewhere~"

"Yeah I guess I must've been sleeping... What'd you get up to before I found you?" I bucked my back a little as I walked, trying to bounce her.

 

"Oh... not a lot. Just walking around. Trying to avoid The Caretaker."

As soon as she said it, you hear loud footsteps from the corridor ahead of you. You freeze. Umbra grabs onto you tightly. "T-that's... him?!" she whispers in your ear.

You have two options. You can either trying inputting the code for the door next you to, or keep running and hide - and hope The Caretaker hasn't set his eyes on you.

Looking down at the pad next to you, you frantically tap in some numbers that you remembered off the doors, mumbling them to yourself under your breath. "Eight...Four...Six...Five..."

 

Umbra clinging to you didn't make this any earlier. You racked your brain for what the numbers might be, and then remember what was scrawled on the doors from earlier. Let's seee... put them in order.. which order? Damn it.... Eventually you randomly decided on one combination of the numbers, and entered them into the keypad. The door slid open. You rushed inside with Umbra and turned as the doors closed, and locked behind you.

What will you do now?

(Thank the jesus I was hoping it wasn't counting down or I'd be dead.)

Pulling out my flashlight, I shine it around the room, trying to get my bearings.

 

Catching my breath i ask umbra "he'll find us eventually right? Is it possible to never be found by him?"

 

The room was dimly lit. You shone your flashlight around to get your bearings. Thankfully, after a few seconds - the lights started to brighten and you could see without the flashlights aid. It looked like you were in a security room of some kind. You Ask Umbra about The Caretaker.

"I.. I-i don't know... Maybe he hadn't turned the corner yet? Maybe... he didn't see us?" she whimpered. "I d-didn't even see this room. W-where did this room come from?" she asked.

Noticing her change in behaviour i sigh sadly "are you ok umbles? Dont go freaking out now this team requires both of us to function"

 

"I .. don't know. Scared. Excited? Both?" she said quietly. "You know... he... he saved me."

You try asking Umbra more questions, but the girl withdraws from your neck and shuffles off behind you. She won't respond to any more questions.

Using the flashlight i whip it around the room in the hope ill find more about it

 

You pocket the flashlight - you don't need it any more - and look around the room. There were various screens and touch pads around the room, and you could only guess at what they all did. On the back wall was a huge screen with multiple feeds on it - probably security cameras. On the left where some other control, and on the right there were some levers.

What will you investigate first?
