Use the two bandages i have left to cover the mouth of umbra and me. Afterwards I head further inside.

 

You're wary at first, but as you proceed onward, you realise that you must be walking towards the pool you saw on the security cameras. You stuff the bandages back into your pocket.

Follow the smell of chlorine to find the pool

 

You walk through the Men's changing room and out toward the pool. As you approach the opening that leads out to it, you can smell something - sweet, but with a little tinge of sourness. You saw this before as a passing glance on the security footage - but looking at it in person was a lot better. Umbra purred approvingly.

"They got what they deserved~!" she said joyfully.

As you look amongst the various limbs, giblets and goo - you notice something floating out in the middle of the water.

Try to find the source of the smell

 

It's the same smell from when you were feeding - so you can only assume it coming from all the blood and viscera in the room. You wonder if it has that slight tinge of sourness to it because of how long they've been there for. It must be from the decomposition.

I check around all the corners of the pool room for anything useful.

 

You make a quick sweep around the edge of the pool making sure there isn't anything else to go an investigate. As you circle the pool, you can see what grabbed your interested earlier much clearer. It seems to be a piece of paper - maybe from Paul's diary?

I carefully attempt to pick up the paper, making sure not to slip due to any residual residue.

 

It's way too far out. You try using a spare arm from a dead human to knock it towards you, but it just floats to the center of the pool.

I look into the pool, making sure the Creeping Darkness' cousin the Creeping Deepness isn't hiding in there. "I'm rather sure you're not good with swimming Umbles... But uh... Wanna go for a swim?"

 

You feel Umbra release her grasp on you, and back away from you.

"I don't... really like water." she said simply. You shrug in response. To avoid getting waterlogged, you remove your boots and overalls - giving the latter to Umbra to hold. You hear her take a deep breath - and you smirk at the sight of her inhaling your scent. You slide into the water gently and swim over to the note. With ti raised above your head, you push yourself back over to the edge of the pool and hoist yourself up onto the edge to read it.

Paul Langford Dairy Entry #3

It's been a few months since I wrote something, but something really ******* intense just happened, and I gotta write this down.

For a while now, I've been hearing rumors about The Caretaker. Apparently he's just some dude who captures the Unknowns and brings them to Ashgate. I was in the cafeteria eating my lunch, when the The Caretaker just rolls on through like it's nothing. At LOT of people were staring. He usually eats in his own cabin outside in the garden, so this was super weird. Any way, he walks up to one of the tables and one of the guys just goes mental. Someone tried to step in and remind The Caretaker - this guy was human, there's nothing to do here - but The Caretaker threw them out of the way.

The guy that was going mental? Oh, he lost it entirely. He started running, but before he could reach the door out to the reception area - The Caretaker rushed him and pinned him to a wall. The guys skin just starts melting and turning into some kind of... tar like substance. I heard some girl behind me throw up. Can humans.... seriously... become one of those Unknown things? Jesus ******* christ. I don't want to be one of those monsters.

So, The Caretaker actually lives in this cube? You sigh heavily through your nose. You crumpled up the paper and threw it back into the pool.

"Eh, there's other rooms more interesting than this..." I mumble, looking towards the other changing room.

 

As you exited the pool, Umbra brushed up against you once more, now licking the blood-water from your skin. "Sooo sweet, so sweet~!" If she didn't know by now she had been eating a human earlier, she definitely did now. You briefly wondered if your insides would taste just as sweet, and make a mental reminder to keep a closer eye on Umbra. You took a look through each changing room - neither was of any use, and you wondered if there was anywhere else where you could wash off and change.
