Ashgate #1 - Game Thread

(when did this turn from escaping into ******* umbra?)

You rise up out of the water, and close your eyes. You're fairly certain of you ability to navigate this room without look, so you turn and walk out of the baths and over to the lockers. Umbra cleared her throat from over in the direction of the bath, so you figured it was safe enough to search each locker for a towel and a change of clothes. After drying yourself off she followed suit - and you could see her pale, white skin in the corner of your eye. The both of you got dressed, and were ready to go again.

As the pair of you walked out into the gym, you spot someone on the other side of the glass - outside in the garden. You quickly dash behind cover, and sneak another peek. It looked as if whatever it was, was heading to the stairs that led back up to the second floor.

"What, whaaat? Did you see The Caretaker?" Umbra probed. You told her what you saw. "We.. we can't get caught."

"I don't think it was the Caretaker... Someone though, maybe one of the other escapees..." I mumble, then I finish my thought. "Can't be too careful though, better stay down here for a bit. He's moved on, so the gym should be fine..."

 

"You're right about that" Umbra scoffed. "You look too human! Any Unknown would pounce on you the moment they saw you. What are these machines ever for?!"

You ended up taking Umbra on a tour of the Gym. While you showed her everything and what they did - you searched every nook and cranny you could along the way. When you were finished, you didn't find anything that would have been useful.

"There's a door to the outside, right? Let's go."

"Alright we can check that out... Gotta be careful though." I took us over to the door, and tried to figure out what was outside before opening it.

 

You pushed the door open gently, and strained your hearing for anything out of the ordinary. One you were sure it was safe to proceed, you stepped out into the cool air. You were a little amazed at how well they were able to stimulate the feeling of being outside, even though you were so, so far underground. You took a look around the garden, appreciating the many plants and flowers that were planted. You wondered who took care of it all. For the first time since you first woke up, your head let out a cautionary throb. Forehand in palm, you hung your head and waited for it to pass.

"Mmmhh....? Are you okay Mister?" Umbra asked. "Is it the music?"

"I think it's a migraine... My... Uh, who was she..." I grasp at my memory, trying to remember a woman I used to know who always had migraines.

 

You sigh, and resigned to your fate. The more you tried to remember her, the further she got away from you. "My wife? I don't really remember."

Umbra pouted. "You.. you have me."

You laughed, and pet one of the arms wrapped around your neck. "I sure do, Umbles." You continue on through the garden, the music getting steadily louder. You look upwards, and you see the room that you spotted earlier from the first floor balcony. Sure enough, there were stairs leading up to the door.

I attempt to break a piece of one of the nearby plant holders and throw it through the window.

 

It would be a shame to ruin some of these nice plants, but you needed something to try and smash the window in. Thankfully, there were some empty planters under the stairs, and The Creeping Darkness grumbled ans you brushed past it to grab one. You apologise for turning on the lights, and it grunts back at you. At least he didn't try to eat you.

After ascending the stairs, you throw the planter against the window, but it bounces off. Probably for the best. You remind yourself that you and Umbra need rest, and this looked like a secure place to do so... if you could get in.

I start to walk up to the door, making sure the Creeping Darkness isn't following, still suspicious of them.

 

You look down at The Creeping Darkness - it was still under the stairs. You approached the door, and was ready to tap your key card. Weird... there wasn't any reader. Upon closer examination, you spotted an old-fashioned door knob and key hole. If you wanted to get in, you're have to find the key. Recalling your adventured so far, you determined that it must be somewhere on the second floor. Where exactly hadn't you been yet? As you turned away, Umbra grabbed your attention.

"Wait, look!" she said, pointing at the sign above the door. You turned, and saw THE CARETAKER etched into a metal sign.

Huh.

I remember the keys in my pocket and try to use them on the door.

 

You fish the keys out of your pocket, but as you raise them to the keyhole, you notice that these are distinctly different. They're a lot more antiquated then the type of key you need. You'll just have to search for it instead.
