We've gone through ideas, many ideas for that matter, but all the meanwhile we have had an identity crisis. Who are we? What are we? What did we set out to do? We set out with one goal at one time, though, with time it was slowly forgotten, and then new ideas flourished.... Leading us to a what are we situation. Having said that, i'd now like to ask, to whomever is still active or manages to go on SD, what should we do? What do you want to see, on here?

Absolutely, and well, you've given me an idea. Perhaps yes, this could more than likely work, you'd be able to buy things via currency you acquire through posting, threads, etc. We could even have downloads available at a certain post count, or as you mentioned, in forum currency. The downloads could of course be user created avatars, light novel volumes, etc. It could definitely work, and I'll look into making it possible. I appreciate you bringing this up, we had thought about it before, but now that you put it like this, it sounds like a great addition.

I've been thinking about it, and decided that aside from being a Japanese-focused or anime-focused site, my idea is that we should be a forum that generally focuses on 'anything' instead. This would mean that SD isn't focused on anything, but rather 'anything', which kind of fights 'generic' in a fair way.

What would control SD, however, is the fanbase. There will be sections for everything (including anything otaku-related), think of 4chan and Reddit as a base for this idea, but, better? There will be an otaku forum, game forum, and pretty much a forum category on anything.

That doesn't mean the anime-related features of SD wouldn't be added though, just because we're moving away from an otaku focused forum. They will be added among the many other features we would have that isn't anime related.

Best part about this idea, instead of inviting a specific focus of people like we have in the past with anime and the like, you now pretty much have the ability to invite whoever you want to the site, without a specific focus in mind.

What do you guys think of this?

I'm honestly thinking of giving otaku-related categories less space on the forum. Like most forums, if one category is way too heavily focused on, the other ones are dead, and the community itself takes critical damage from that. Giving other sections more categories aside from the forum-focused category can increase forum activity if even the slightest, from what I've analyzed.

I get what you're saying about being 'broad', but the main point of SD is getting members and more activity right now. Not the concept. And like I said, it kind of fights 'generic'. Most forums have a focus, which makes it generic. By not having the focus, we're doing the complete opposite of what everyone else is doing. Which is one way to make good business, if you want to put it that way. I've already emphasized a few times how the staff, even myself, won't be able to be active all the time, so there's that. I'm thinking of removing and hiring some new staff though. Specifically replacing a certain someone. And in general, I kind of want to move away from being an Japanese/otaku-focused forum anyways, that way I can invite my friends who aren't into Japanese or anime-focused things, because they are into forums as well. Just not those ones.

Of course, this is up for discussion. I will never hold bars on that.

 

Alright, so here's the thing, I'll be working on a new theme here soon, Kaito will be helping me with the process. This will probably be our main theme for a while as the only reason we've switched it so many times is due to not being happy with the final outcome, but this time will be different, i'm almost 1000 percento sure that this will fill that void I've had. Having said that, the ecchi theme..... While an ecchi theme will never make it as the main SD theme, i wouldn't mind making such a theme available as a secondary option, if someone else makes the resources, that is.

As for what. Kaito, has brought up, it's something i've thought about as well, but i'm not really sure that would work out in the long run, the main issue being we're not really targeting an specific fanbase, and instead trying to take in too much at one time. At the same time, doing such a change might open us up to more options which would lead to, perhaps, more users signing up in the long run. It would allow for more focus on a greater variety content aswell, which is always a good thing. So leaving features aside for a bit, first thing we're going to do is fix up the forum, and make it clear what it is we are, while also organizing the place, and see how we'll handle the staff situation. After that we'll work on implementing the currency system x option to buy things, though that won't take too long.

@Mahesvara I'll need your help with what things will be available to download once these features are in place.
