2 simplest reality versions. Let's assume the situation happens on 2 different conditions. 1st- sakura is only person witnessing Naruto vs pain. 2nd- hinata is the only person.
1st case- noone comes down to face pain, kyuubi gets extracted, naruto dies, akatsuki gets the Ultima weapon, madara is reborn, there's no naruto to help if shinobi decided to combine forces, freaking gg sakura.
2nd case- literally the same plot as manga and anime. Hinata gets destroyed, kyuubi rage leads to naruto overpowering pain.

Occam's razor: what's better, to let akatsuki win the war before it started taking kyuubi (sakuras way) or actually trying, putting the life on the stake for the sake of your comrade (Hinatas way) which was trigger for 8 tails and eventually Naruto overpowering pain.

I'm not convinced a bit and really further rant has no sense whatsoever. She is annoying bitch showing absolute worst of her character at many many occasions, and being MC she doesn't fulfill her role at all. Be that due to author inability or intended character creation- she is a bitch. And no matter how many people would try, you cannot ever justify sasusaku happening. It's just complete bullshit.
And before that happens- yes NaruHina has more ground to happen than sasusaku, and I don't really need to explain why, anyone with a bit of realistic thinking knows this (hint: crime, death sentence and murder attempts don't do good job for love or relationships)
