at least you have the choice to buy card packs or whatever, but for gaming if you want to gain a competitive advantage in a lot of games you need to buy them or would you rather people just quit gaming all together?

you need to blame the greedy EA for that.

Overwatch has lootboxes and makes no difference to anyone. It's the way you do things.

That's not my point, my point was, wasn't half of the argument that companies refuse to display the chances of gaining specific things within the lootbox?

It's a slippery slope. One minute they're doing it for cosmetic shit, the next thing you know, you have a 1% chance to unlock the last level in the game.

cosmetics are definitely more tame than what ea does and they help fund new content but idk man. I'd rather loot boxes be gone so greedy companies don't exploit them.

I will just repeat what I said: Best not to let publishers/devs to have a free run with micro-transactions, to essentially hide things behind predatory pay walls that can ruin family's finances.

At least gambling dens don't let in minors and are heavily regulated. Same thing with loot boxes. Ban or regulate.

Loot boxes piss me off on two fronts: As a gamer and as an auditor & tax consultant.

^ Such agreement. Much good point. Wow.

The laws to regulate lootboxes (from my knowledge) only serve to regulate in-game transactions which are seen as gambling. I don't care for a flat out ban on all forms of micro-transactions. One which regulates/bans something which is essentially gambling is okay. If a game publisher/dev attempts to circumvent that somehow, then someone can just go file a case against them.

    ^ Yup.

Not just EA. Activision have pulled the exact same shit. And other game publishers are likely to follow suit.

As I said: This is a problem which needs to be nipped in the bud, and show the gaming industry that it is a practice which we will not tolerate. Better now than later.

Exactly why this problem should be nipped in the F@cking bud.

    NIP IN THE BUD

That's the point of laws to "ban" the "lootboxes", what's the difference between that and an up front sale of a skin for money, for example? Why not just sell the item? Because there is more monetary gain by having it like it is.

Yeah, but you know the chance of the item you're trying to get before buying it.
