    I once smelled smoke in my apartment building and thought something was on fire. Turned out lady next door was just making rasam powder, which involves roasting sun-dried chillies, pepper, and various other spices together.

    The smell of roasting sun-dried chillies and spices is actually somewhat nice.

    Fireplace? In Australia?

    Well... To heck with them, then.
