To be fair: A few of those countries are actually doing better than us economically and even democratically.

Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan all ranked above India on the hunger index, and have also been doing better on poverty eradication. Bangladesh and Nepal have also been doing better in terms of increased democratic protections and judicial oversight of government overreach.

Nepal has, over the last decade, taken steps towards increased LGBT rights and even potential recognition of same-sex marriage soon, while the cow-******* country-raping lunatics here claim it will cause India's downfall.

Sri Lanka is turning into a personal fiefdom of the Rajapaksa family; though they are doing better than us on the economy front, with their GDP per capita currently being nearly double ours and their poverty eradication being far more impressive than what India achieved even under Manmohan Singh.

It's actually pretty safe to travel to Nepal, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka. Hell, even Bangladesh wouldn't be a bad trip.

Those are either well off NRIs (Non-Resident Indians) or financially well off residents who can afford to go abroad for travelling. Travel abroad for a resident Indian is not cheap (except to may be Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh). A majority of middle class Indians can't even afford a trip to Thailand or Indonesia, never mind regions like South Korea, Japan, Europe, or the Americas.

You can easily get a passport in less than three weeks without bribes (almost) by using the Passport Seva online portal. As for bribes: may be only an at most Rs. 200/- bribe (plus snacks & tea/coffee) to the cop who comes to the address you want the passport in (for address and final background verification).

Just upload scans of all the necessary documents (Aadhaar or bank passbook/statement for address proof). Book an appointment at nearest Passport Seva Kendra for in-person interview and physical document verification. Then wait for police address/background verification. And then wait for ten to fifteen days for passport to arrive via speed-post.

It would take three to six months to get a passport ONLY if you have prior or oustanding criminal charges/convictions.

However, given how this ******* Nazi-worshipping regime is handing out bogus sedition and other bogus cases like candy, anyone who says anything against them would find it near impossible to get a passport without literally suing the government for the right to get one.

Especially given that @JoeJoe does not have a high income right now. For USD 300, you could actually get a very good new mid-range mobile phone.
