They have dollars like USA but have the Queen from pounds?

 

They used Australian pound as currency till 1960s but then replaced it with Australian Dollar

 

Infuriating.

Australia is a dominion of the Commonwealth of the UK i.e. not technically an independent republic, and the monarch of the UK is still the legal head of state. Also Aussie currency is Australian Dollar (AUD), not Pound.

However, with old Lizzy's death, there have been renewed calls to declare Australia a Republic independent of the Commonwealth.

Last year, Barbados declared itself a parliamentary Republic, officially removing the monarch of the UK as head of state, removing their UK dominion status, and framing their own constitution.

I made a rather dark and insensitive remark about old Lizzy and Charles yesterday and had a - of all the bloody people - staunch left wing acquaintance of mine tell me to show as much dignity as the Dabbawalas who mourned Lizzy and show respect to her living family members who mourned her passing.
