I got some time with a Galaxy A55 and an S24FE yesterday evening. Yup... The PWM in their displays might be an issue. I might have to consider a different device or forego OLED/AMOLED displays altogether and just get something with an IPS LCD display.

The first two weeks of the month went by slowly. Then * BOOM * the next two weeks speed-blitzed us.

 

Most mid-range phones and all higher end phones use OLED/AMOLED. Only low end devices are currently using IPS LCD, and some niche mid-range devices that are meant for rugged usage. The only mainstream mid-range device I can think of that uses LCD right now is the Motorola G75, and it hasn't even released in India.

I can consider a device that uses high frequency PWM with DC dimming. The only option that satisfies that requirement and my other requirements within my budget is the Motorola Edge 50 Pro. Xiaomi also has some comparable models, but I hate their ADHD software and shite battery life. My only other option is to get a Motorola G45 (IPS LCD) but I will have to compromise on display resolution and forego some modern features such as wi-fi 6 and faster charging.

But I was hell-bent on a Samsung, because of the privacy/security features in their software, and I have gotten quite used to One UI and its practicality. Another major bonus of Samsung is the good repairability, even five years down the line. The Galaxy A35 and A36 are seemingly my best bets right now. The A35 is still widely available at good discount, while the A36 is releasing next month. The A35 was okay on my eyes. If the A36 is using the same display panel (it seemingly is) then I can use it without much worry (hopefully).

 

It is between the A35 and A36 right now. They both have their own advantages compared to the other.

Among non-Samsungs, Motorola Edge 50 Pro seems best. Its only disadvantages so far are low repairability score and curved display (which I fukking despise) but the display at least has 700 Hz PWM and DC dimming (which is very comfy for the eyes).
