What bugs me is that this client has received a notice for filing clarifications despite declaring every single fukking rupee that he has earned, despite hiding nothing, despite paying so much in taxes, despite all the data the department needing already being available online for them to plainly see themselves, despite his bankers also confirming everything to within rounding error, and despite no reasonable doubt whatsoever left regarding his return.

However... Billionaires, corporate conglomerates, and religious trusts dodging taxes equivalent to our annual national education budget? Nah... Don't care.

 

Had another stupid thing happen to another client. She got a demand order and had to pay roughly INR 450k, which she did not even contest and just paid outright.

A fresh notice was issued by a new officer (previous one retired) in the same case, and they asked for repayment of the same INR 450k. The reason? Because of an INR 12 difference in our calculation when we filed a GST DRC-03 application (for voluntary payment of tax demand) to settle the case.

We met with the Joint Commissioner for the jurisdiction, and she was pissed. She straight up yelled at the junior officer for issuing a fresh notice over fukking INR 12 difference in INR 450k already paid and settled. What a mad lass.

Also... Do you know how pitiful an amount INR 12 is? It is 0.21 AUD (21 Australian cents). You don't even get a packet of potato chips or a cup of tea for that these days. A 450 gram loaf of bread costs three or four times that.
