The former made refrigerators, washing machines, ironing boxes, and hair dryers that lasted 25-35 years. Those factories (at least their privatized successors) are still around and making new products. Heck, some of their Soviet era products are still up and running and being serviced even today.

Volvo cars, trucks, and buses can run for literally several decades. There are WW2 era Volvo cars and trucks still running. Volvo is still among the world's major automotive giants.

Then there is the issue of Cuba, who make shite that can last long out of absolute necessity. And their state-run concerns are still around.

These cases prove that you can make shit that lasts for literally decades and still have a going concern.
