Synopsis:
Strange creatures known as "Mimics" have invaded Earth, sparking a global war that has humanity fighting for survival. In response, mankind forms the United Defense Force, a joint organization whose purpose is to overcome this new threat. Dedicated to the extermination of the growing Mimic menace, soldiers are plunged into battle, wearing special exoskeleton combat suits in an attempt to gain the upper hand against their foes.

New recruit Keiji Kiriya is immediately killed after his very first deployment, but to his shock, he wakes up exactly one day before his unit was dropped into a Mimic invasion. After experiencing the same event yet again, he realizes that he is stuck in a time loop triggered by his death. As he relives the day of the battle hundreds of times, Keiji begins to make use of what he has learned about the phenomenon, gradually building up his strength and improving his skills so that eventually, when he comes face-to-face with death once more, he will be ready to change his fate.

Chapter 1 was good. We follow the MC Keiji Kiriya, a soldier in the war of mankind against monsters known as mimics. There's not anything known about mimics other than them trying to wipe out humanity. Various places over the world are slowly being overwhelmed it seems. Japan is the only industrial nation that can create the composite armor for battle jackets, that seems to be the method of combatting the mimics. The U.S. special forces led by Rita Vrataski protect the production of the composite armor and Keiji will be fighting with her team. They've been basically the only successful unit to combat the mimics.

Rita looks like a pretty young petite girl. Her epithet is the Full Metal Bitch? Keiji had some dream about losing his arm on the battlefield and then dying, and is taking it as a premonition it seems, but playing it off as just a dream. Things get interesting, their unit was completely overwhelmed by the mimics, and Keiji died, then he woke up. So he's stuck in a loop like groundhog day?

In absolute panic, Keiji decided to desert and entered a safe zone. He had some small talk with a civilian girl and elderly man, before they were killed and he was too. A mimic was inside the safe zone. He respawned and then shot himself in the head and respawned. Keiji has deduced he's the only person in the time loop, at least for now. I suspect that Rita probably is too.

 

Chapter 2 was good. As suspected, the first "dream" was actually the first real death. Rita's weapon is a huge battle axe, and she stayed with Keiji until his death. In the end, before his first death, he did take a mimic with him. Keiji plans to exploit his time looping to gain experience and become a stronger soldier, makes sense. He can't do anything else really.

 

Chapter 3 was good. The "rules" around the time loop make sense. When Keiji dies, he returns to the morning the day before the battle no matter where and how he dies. He can't escape and his memories of what happened remain. Not every loop is the same.

Keiji is making progress. He ran through the battlefield and died seven times, but can now run how he wants through the battlefield. His next goal is to learn how to attack. By loop 47 he's become a soldier that even impressed the Sargent, although he still kept dying due to running out of ammo. The solution was sneaking into one of the mechanics/engineers Shasta Raylle and asking her to make him a battle axe the same as Rita's.

 

Chapter 4 was good. Shasta Raylle is a young genius with 20/320 vision (wearing glasses???) and entered MIT at a young age and graduated at the top of her class. She's also Rita's personal tech person. Wow, Rita's battle axe weighs 200kg. Shasta is very insistent that Rita is the only person capable of wielding the weapon as she has excluded the auto-balancer from her jacket. Apparently, Rita also told her she's glad to live in a world full of war when they first met.

In the end, with some bribery and words, Shasta was convinced to make the weapon for Keiji.

 

Chapter 5 was good. Keiji died again. His current scheduled for one day is 0600 wake up after dying 0610 steal silicon chip 0630 eat breakfast 0730 train to correct prior mistakes 0900 mental training 1030 ask Shasta to make the battle axe 1130 eat lunch 1300 train with the Sargent 1745 eat dinner 1900 Yonabaru's party 2200 check jacket and sleep 0112 help Yonabaru into his bunk.

Keiju just sat there eating but is tired of eating the same meal for the 80th time, so had an uninterested look on his face, which irritated another soldier. The other soldier tried to fight him, but he just dodged everything, before letting himself be hit. Seems that Keiji impressed Rita.

 

Chapter 6 was good. The reason Keiji looked so gloomy was due to him causing the Sarge's death, and he has a family with young kids, so it really struck a cord. Rachel seemed to pick up that Keiji was the superior combatant but opted to not fight back. She offered to spend the night with him, but he declined due to the loops.

The migraines that Keiji has been getting have been getting worse, I'm assuming it's tied to the loops. After 158 loops, it seems he cleared that first battle.

 

Chapter 7 was good. Keiji's squad backed him up due to his tremendous performance. He continued doing well killing the mimics. When Keiji went to confront the mimic from his first loop, Rita contacted him asking how many loops he had been through. Just like I had thought, she also has loops.

 

Chapter 8 was good. We get some of [redacted]'s backstory. So she was a young gool from way out in the boondocks and a pretty average girl with average grades. She was good at playing horse shoes and pretending to cry.

Unfortunately, the mimics soon attacked the town. In the night, her dad through her in the cellar with her already injured mother. The father was smart though, after trying to run them over in a car without successes, he managed to line two up, then dodge the laser so they killed each other. Unfortunately, there was another mimic and he died.

Turns out, three mimics destroyed the town three hours before the defense force arrived. The mother sadly died before she could be saved, leaving her as the sole survivor. While being too young to join, she stole a passport of someone three years older and joined. That's how Rita got the name Rita Urataski, it's not her real name and her goal became to kill every mimic. She experienced her first loop six months after that.

 

Chapter 9 was good. So not only did the mimics kill people, but where they passed through would become a wasteland. The water would turn murky green, they ate the earth and drank the water and spewed out a substance poisonous to earth life, but beneficial to them.

6 months after joining, Rita was put in a veteran squad. It was held together by a first lieutenant Arthur Hendricks. He seemed nice and tried to comfort her. After that is when she had the encounter with the strange mimic with an antenna-like feature, which seemed to cause her to loop.

Wow, the revelation of the mimics themselves rewinding time and having that same timeloop that Rita and Keiji have I wasn't expecting. That's fucked up.
