4 GB VRAM GPUs are going to make a big comeback, apparently.

However, AAA game devs will absolutely never optimize their games to use less than 4 GB VRAM. You see a game using 6 GB VRAM, when it should theoretically be using less than 3 GB (Halo: Campaign Evolved being a prime example of this).

Basically, we gamers are caught between predatory AI bros, predatory RAM/GPU manufacturers, and game devs/publishers who no longer give a damn.

Yeah. I have. And he isn't the only journalist looking into AI cos. He is just the most famous one.

    Goodnight, groin punter.

Want me to ruin your day even more?

The RAM and storage manufacturers can supposedly meet the demand (at least the current demand levels as of August-September 2026) for memory and storage with only moderate difficulty. They just want to kill older RAM versions quickly and jack up prices greatly on more current products for everyone - from AI tech bros to the average end consumer. This isn't even a conspiracy theory. There were lawsuits and investigations regarding this in the US, Canada, and the US. Heck, Samsung Germany's CEO was sentenced to eight months in prison over artificial product shortages and price-fixing charges. Samsung's main RAM manufacturing division in Fake Korea recorded a profit of USD 61 billion in FY 2025-26. Just to clarify: That is not USD 61 billion in turnover. That is just the profit.

These people are just using the AI boom as an excuse to fvck with everyone. And I do mean 'everyone'. They're fvcking with even the AI tech bros.

My wife has a relative in DRDO. Apparently, they will finish shifting from Windows to Maya OS (which is based on Ubuntu) every single system in every single DRDO office and factory (as well as in the offices of the Defence Ministry) and also every Ministry of Information Technology office by the end of next month.

Maya OS was developed by the DRDO itself, by the way.

Half of Europe will also see government and central bank computers shift to Linux (many of them being proprietary Linux distros developed specifically by the national governments) by the end of this year or end of 2027. Ditto for Brazil, several African nations, China, Turkey, and several other Asian nations.

Considering that most of these big tech capitalists get away with some truly unspeakable crimes; what is needed are not fists. These people need to be dealt with via small pieces of conical metal traveling at supersonic velocities, if you know what I mean.

    The Bolsheviks were right.

That's cool. I wonder how ubuntu goes against windows security wise?

Debian, Ubuntu (which is a fork of Debian), Fedora are probably the three most secure Linux distros. Hell, most servers and data centres around the world run Debian, while Ubuntu and its forks are trusted by the banks and even militaries of Switzerland and France (both nations recently switched from Windows). That should tell you a lot.

Be interesting to see the rise of 8bit gaming again or retro arcade style.

A lot of game studios are fucked from top to bottom. I don't think any of the talent exists anymore at those studios. Every other one moved to UE5 because they don't have any of the engine devs left. Not only that, but because the way they work with a combination of inhouse + outsource, that way they pick anyone to work on it because UE5 is all the people learn these days. They obviously don't even dig into settings to optimize it but clearly just work with a bunch of default shit + upscaling as default. Plus, the engine itself just has some flaws as a base line like traversal stutter. Plus, they obviously just target the ps5 as the base spec (and misuse it imo) and with the shared memory pool they just expect the same vram basically. That is my opinion on lower level of it. Then you have obviously the greed from the top CEOs/Shareholders cannibalizing these companies exacerbating the issue of incompetence from below, and terrible middle management. I think a lot are just fucked from top to bottom.

Not only that, but they were refusing expand capacity to meet demand because they don't want to be left like usual with oversupply that is even cheaper because they have even more factories.

I feel as though people who work on the game itself also don't give a damn any more, because they have this looming threat of termination hanging over their heads. The greedy corpos and shareholders have killed all the passion.

At least that is the situation in the west. Japan and China are a different matter entirely.

Fell from my bed last night, with all of my weight focused on my left knee. Currently in immense pain, unable to bend my left leg properly, using a walking cane.

Yeah, I can understand that part. Although the lay off thing is slightly complicated, well, not really but kind of. xD There is some case of them over hiring from around covid times. Then if a game flops or does shit obviously people are going to be cut. But there's also cases of a game doing fine and still getting hit. Then the companies also indulge in anti-consumer practices while doing that. Crunch is also an awful practice, there's definitely mistreatment of the employees setting aside other stuff. I think it's usually just collectively referred to as Eastern companies (Japan, China, Korea) have been hitting out of the park a lot, but aren't entirely away from some of the Western company issues, hard to say if that's due to misunderstanding what people want or due to investment/outside influences. Either way, I think in general I been enjoying games from Korea/China/Japan a lot more than Western stuff, at least on the AAA front.
Damn dude, that sounds awful. I hope you can recover fast but sounds bad. Not broken or fractured is it?

Electronic Asshole has closed studios and laid off workers who made massive hits that did well financially. Ditto for Ubishit and Epic.

At worst it might be an hairline fracture. Going to a doctor and getting my knee x-ray'd later today.
