As she watches Ranko calmly battle her way through a horde of gun- and knife-wielding maids, Nagomi realizes that maid cafes are drastically unlike what she had envisioned. While struggling to reconcile her expectations with the harsh reality she finds herself in, Nagomi searches for the enjoyment she once saw in the lives of maids. [Written by MAL Rewrite]
Episode 1 was good. It opens up with one maid gunning another down, setting the tone. We're introduced to the main character, Nagomi whose dreamed of becoming a maid! She's applied for a position and been accepted in the maid café. There was another woman who was also hired at the same time, Ranko. The age disparity is funny, Nagomi being 17 and Ranko being 35. Ranko is also extremely blunt/deadpan. Nagomi tried her best for the customers, but is kind of terrible at being a made. Ranko did ok. It seems like the owner Yasuko is in debt, as some shady guy came to collect presumably money. In lieu of there not being what he wanted, it was tasked for Nagomi to go to their competitor's café to deliver a letter. Ranko ended up accompanying her. The letter basically declared war, then Ranko started killing all of the other rival maids. Things really are hectic. Nagomi is regretting signing up for whatever she did!
Episode 2 was good. Poor Nagomi was having a rough time, with a little PTSD. Seeing blood everywhere it wasn't. Yasuko had a rough time with the incident. The intention was for one of her girls to be taken out, not the opposite. The debt collector really wasn't happy. Nagomi thought about running away, but talking to another maid while handing out fliers somehow changed her mind. Yasuko went and borrowed some money, then fell for their "advice" to go gambling, and of course, lost it all. That was after putting the business up as collateral. In the end, she roped the others into gambling to "make the money back" due to their dire straits. Nagomi had the right idea, to leave while ahead. Unfortunately, Yasuko insisted on taking over, and lost all of the winnings and money. The others girls also all got cleaned out, due to the casino cheating. They ended up being dragged into a high stakes poker round, and predictably lost. Although, Yumechi did put up a good fight. It ended with Ranko killing again.
Episode 3 was good. Started out showing some figurine collector guy going on about selling a fake that was made of a rare one. Ranko was going to get his ass for insulting her, but was stopped by a female body guard, Zoya. The debt collector came around and held Yasuko at gun point, before deciding to use Ranko. Looks like Yasuko might be down an eye too. They ended up going into some sketchy fighting place where the matches were fixed. Ranko naturally ignored that she was supposed to lose and won her match in one hit. The woman running it , Lion Ace Maid wasn't happy at all, but Yasuko was able to beg for another chance to build up another rigger winner. This time it would be Zoya. Lion Ace Maid also killed the figure collector guy and took his figure and ordered Ranko to hide the body, intent on framing her. The final match ended up as Ranko vs Zoya. Zoya basically had a childhood where she was never allowed to be feminine so dreamt of being a made. Due to how Ranko is, she refused to see her as a maid. In the end, they resolved their conflict and Ranko pulled the win. Zoya ended up joining them too.
Episode 4 was good. The main creatureland sent drill masters out to all of the maid cafes to whip them into shape. This ended up with Yasuko being thrown out. At first the girls all resisted their appointed drill master Minori. But she did some "convincing" which involved throwing them off the roof before catching them and helping them up. She actually turned them all around, but it was almost like brain washing. Only Ranko and Shiipon weren't actually affected. The improvement to all girls was a success, but when Minori departed, Yasuko returned and Shiipon exploded the creatureland ornament. The girls all reverted with that. When Minori returned, she was in for a rude shock.
Episode 5 was good. Started with Yasuko working them to the bone, making 1,000,000 origami flowers to sell. Only 200,000 each. So Nagomi got the idea to do an event to try and rake in money from Nerura when they were both handing out fliers. It was suggested, a birthday celebration for example! Luckily, it was Ranko's birthday. Nagomi and Ranko alone tried organising it while the rest of the group seemed to mock the idea and put them down. Ranko did the decorations herself for her own party although they got no attendants. They decided to go the an affiliated maid cafe's place to get support. Unfortunately, it was their leader's birthday as well, so it didn't go over well. They were mocked and humiliated so left. Then they were attacked and basically put to death. It turns out, the rest of the girls were actually planning a surprise cake! They were rather angry about Nagomi and Ranko being late. Luckily the panda saw what happened so the other girls rescued them! They then wished Ranko a happy birthday.
Episode 6 was good. Manami an older maid that was locked up for years returned. She is also part of one of the rivals to Oinky Doink Café and is after them due to the few maid groups they've taken out. Nagomi and Nerura formed a sisterly maid bond and Nerura provided intel to Nagomi about the plot to crush the Oinky Doink Café. This made her a traitor and set Manami after her. Ranko and Nagomi found Nerura in time, but Ranko refused to intervene and stopped Nagomi too, which was dumb. In the end, poor Nerura died.
Episode 7 was good. Nerula's death was pinned on the manager of Invader Café. Nagomi is out sick again, and has been for some time basically vanishing. The entire Oinky Doink Café was worried. With Manami back, a full assault on the Oinky Doink Café was coming. Ranko went out looking for Nagomi and found her. She had become a Ninja at a Ninja café, denouncing her maid café dream. After some of Nerula's regulars found her and gifted her some stuff of Nerula's, Nagomi decided to commit to being a maid. With her back, the Oinky Doink Café was able to defeat the Invader Café. Manami ended up dead, gunned down by the Invader Café maids. The Invader Café partnered with the Creature Group, but instead of a 50-50 merger, they were basically absorbed due to the incident.
Episode 8 was good. With the intention of ironing out the differences between Invader Café and the Oinky Doink Café, it was arranged for them to play baseball. Started out with the Invader girls playing unfairly, while the Oinky Doink girls were playing fairly. Nagomi got cheap shot a fair bit, which caused the other girls to start playing unfairly. Nagomi begged them to play fair. Ranko playing fair, had the others playing fair and eventually even the Invader girls wanted to play fair, except for the leader. In the end, the leader was killed by one of the Invader girls, who was in turn killed by one of the other Invader girls. They pretended they were both still alive to finish the baseball game. I nthe end, the Oinky Doink Café won.
Episode 9 was good. It introduced Japan's first ever maid, Omoe. After her death, an annual festival called the lady Omoe climb was established which crowned one maid as the Lady Omoe of the year. Everyone was ordered to let the lions group win. Naturally, the Oinky Doinks refused. To make it even worse, with them being last place, they were also specifically unfairly worked against. Spite is a powerful motivator, so it was a dumb move. In the end, they pulled the win, and Nagomi was crowned the lady Omoe of the year. Nagi was pissed.
Episode 10 was good. Started out with the man that seems interested in Ranko killing another maid which is a bad sign. Ranko seems to have taken a liking to him, and he her. Ranko was invited out and she agreed. Ranko cleaned up well, and they went on the "date" thing. It went pretty well overall and it seemed like Ranko would stop being a maid to be with him. But, that's when the panda, Okachimachi told her the truth. Okachimachi was a maid that killed Ranko's former mistress and also told her about the man being a hired hit to kill Ranko, and had tried to kill her in the past. It seemed like Ranko was going to kill her, but stopped. Ranko ignored the warning and went for the second date, but Okachimachi ended up killing the man. She also told Ranko that the hit on her former mistress and the one on herself was by Nagi.
Episode 11 was good, but very frustrating. So the Oinky Doink got disowned and then attacked by Creatureland. This had Ranko trying to go alone to try and fix things or die. In the end, the whole group went, with Ranko and Nagomi specifically confronting Nagi. They almost died, but in the end Nagi relented and let them remain part of the group if they paid 10x normal, which was agreed to. Once the dispute ended, Ranko and Nagomi were shopping and Ranko was buying a hair pink for Nagomi, then was stabbed. She died.
Episode 12 was good. Talk about flip flopping. The maid that killed Ranko was from Wuv Wuv Moonbeam. Nagi pardoned her and then announced they were going to destroy Oinky Doink. Ranko's death made Nagomi go off the deep end a little. She started trying to gather intel as to where Nagi was, but was only partially successful. She even had a bit of a fight with the other girls. Then, when she was looking for Nagi, she was beaten up and almost killed by the maid she got some intel from by shooting at her. In the end, Oinky Doink decided to put on a show. They entertained all of the maids including Nagi that were intent on killing them. Even so, Nagi killed a few modes, and shot Nagomi while she was mid performance. Once the performance was done, Nagi shot her multiple times, then the maid that killed Ranko, shot Nagi in the head, and Nagi was finished off by Okachimachi. It was nice that at 36, Nagomi was still a maid, although it looks like she ended up paralyzed.
