Which is really shitty because those games do not look like they have the visuals or the technical advancement that need 4 GB VRAM or GTX 1060 for minimum. I cannot fathom them not running on even a GTX 960 2 GB, given how they look and given what tech they have.

    Yup.

Had a classmate who shit on consoles back in 2012. He had only a Phenom II X2 (dual core) 3 GHz CPU and a GeForce GT 630, both of which were the bare minimum to run 2012 AAA titles on low settings at 1280x720 resolution with 30 fps.

1 TB SSD. I don't care if it's SATA SSD or NVMe SSD, you go for SSD. Buying an HDD in this day and age is bollocks. Last year I even upgraded our old server/storage PC in office with a 256 GB SSD while chukcing the 512 GB HDD it came with.

HDD is more prone to malfunction and subsequent data loss. It also is much slower while also running hotter and draining more battery power.

SSD is the only option. Ideally you should go for another NVMe SSD, if you have a free slot that supports NVMe.

It's a brand spanking new laptop under warranty and Asus has decent-to-good customer care. You can easily get that shit fixed. Contact Asus customer care and politely tell them what is happening. See if they'll arrange a house-pick-up and drop off as well. Otherwise, you can drop it off at your nearest Asus authorized dealer or service outlet.

You have one 8 GB RAM module in it so far, right? Another 8 GB should be fine.

As for storage expansion: As I said, SSD is the way to go.

As far as I know, he's using his new laptop mostly for personal entertainment and casual gaming. It has an i5-9300H and GTX 1650M GDDR5 with 8 GB RAM.

    I agree with this @Laraib

1 TB SSD is better than 2 TB HDD right now, especially given the increased durability and longevity. The speed is an extra bonus, as would be reduced heat and battery consumption.

My wife is using my old Lenovo B490 for work, and is ferrying it between our apartment and our office. I always worry when it's 7200 RPM HDD will give out and die. It's already running hot as is. I thought about swapping it out for a 512 GB or even 256 GB SATA SSD, but decided it would be better to invest in a new budget laptop for her this year than upgrade a 2012-2013 model laptop that's on its last legs.

Was thinking of Acer Swift 3 initially, but she wants 15.6 inch (Swift series are outstanding, but 14 inch only). So looking at Aspire 5 or Asus Vivobook series with Ryzen 3 or Ryzen 5 and iGPU only.

Another option is to give her my Aspire 7 and buy a Swift X for myself xD

    I agree with this @JoeJoe

Sent in my B490 (when it was brand new) once when it started getting too warm. Turned out they needed to outright replace the HDD and reinstall the OS (which they did for free since it was under warranty).

Connect multiple USB devices and check all the ports.

They do, because the devs don't into compression and have all of these ******* massive texture files and shit which will chew into vram. It can seemingly also just be certain settings. Maybe an issue is also scalability in certain engines.

He's only had it so if something is already dead, that smells like a bad unit.

My only reason now to not use warranty is, USB port is not such a massive problem. I don't wanna lose my warranty and lose it for such a small problem if God forbid bigger problems happen, I am screwed.

    Well
    [IMG]

    1) build NAS
    2) install TrueNAS
    3) figure out what the **** i'm doing and create a datapool (think of this as just formatting drives to a usable format), create a user (to giver yourself permissions via like windows for example), create an SMB (windows share thing, so you can access the drive and put files on it through windows), create a dataset (this is like a folder where you can assign specific user accounts access, and then can paste shit into it), install the plex plugin, point plex to the media data, install the Hama and Absolute Series Searcher plugin/searching thing which is what pulls the stuff from AniDB. But yeah, it's not too bad once you get going. xD

    Sketchy

I don't understand what you mean?? You don't usually just get 1 problem and fix for warranty. Warranty usually means if something is faulty it's their obligation to fix/repair/give you a new unit within that period, no matter if it's occurred before. I'm fairly sure that's how the warranty would work.
