    Latest versions Linux (and that too 64-bit) from 2025-2026 will run as smooth as a fresh install of Windows 7 32-bit on a machine from 2010, my man. Windows is just that much of a bloated hot mess.

    There are videos upon videos on youtube of people installing Linux on ten or even fifteen year old laptops, and they are given a fresh lease on life. And they run well, actually.

    I saw a video of a guy running Linux on a laptop from 2012 with a dual core CPU, 4 GB RAM, and a 5400 RPM HDD. It ran as smooth as a Windows 10 laptop from 2021 with a hexa-core CPU, 12 GB RAM, and NVMe SSD.

    Makes sense if you look at the min requirements, isn't it like 500mb ram for example? Or maybe it's 1gb but uses very little ram.

    Linux distros from today can theoretically run on a quarter GB of RAM. However, they (and by 'they' I mean the community, not the OS makers) recommend 1 GB minimum for 32-bit and 1.5 GB for 64-bit, just to be on the safe side. Considering that 4 GB RAM has been the bare minimum shipped with laptops/desktops since 2012, that is no issue at all.

    @Gobb

    After further and further testing with extensions enabled and disabled, and on various browsers, I can say with 100% certainty that Vivaldi, Brave, Firefox, Waterfox, Librewolf, even Tor are not the issue when it comes to youtube playback issues. The problem is fukking youtube itself. The desktop youtube website is just increasingly dog-shit.

    What issue are you having specifically? I will on occasion have issues with a page loading but just ctrl + f5 or just f5 fix it. I use brave with ublock origin and even have brave shield's up with otherwise little issue. I also have hardware acceleration disabled. I don't think I've really had any actual playback issues specifically. You could also try disabling IPV6 so you're only using IPV4 and see if that helps (doubt).
