    Definitely would have contributed to her becoming weaker.

    Yeah.

    Generally, the Japanese are very reserved when it comes to what long term illnesses they were dealing with; other than family, only very close friends are likely to know, and also employers in most cases. It is actually more unusual to have it disclosed to the public at large, unless the deceased party gave it the green light.
