They increased GST and other cesses on electronic goods (including PCs, laptops, and mobile phones) in FY 2020-21 (during a pandemic) as well as GST compensation cess on certain goods which fall under the "sin tax" GST bracket.

The motor industry has been begging Sitharaman to continue to tax BS4 and older BS standard vehicles at the sin rates, while reducing them on BS6 standard vehicles and electric vehicles. BS6 standard two-wheelers still attract the 28% slab. And while the union government did drastically reduce the GST on electric vehicles, their batteries and spare parts still retain the old sin tax GST rates (including the GSTCC); and non-electric hybrids attract GST + GSTCC that brings the overall levy on them to an inexcusable 40% to 43% tax.

Then there is the new regime under income tax.

The problem with the new regime is that while it does decrease the tax liability for some people (while increasing it for some others), on the whole it is not a good option, in my opinion.

The new regime discourages saving/investing (Sitharaman has made it clear that she wants us to move to a consumerist ponzi scheme economy like the US under Ronald Reagan) and is going to cost the government a lot of revenue from those with net annual incomes of Rs. 10 to 50 lakh. This is terrible for a union government already struggling to pay for education (5% consistent drop in education allocation per year since 2014), military & police pensions, infrastructure (though I must admit that they've done very well compared to UPA on the NHAI front), and healthcare (they're failing miserably on this front).

TMC is shit, but at least they won't destroy the idea and identity of West Bengal as the BJP would.

I believe I have said this before and I will say it again: The vast majority of the CAs, CSs, and other finance/auditing/tax professionals I know in this area (Basavanagudi) are strongly pro-BJP/RSS. And they think Jaitley was a terrible finance minister, while holding Manmohan Singh & Chidambaram in high regard as economists. They had some hope for Sitharaman, but she's even worse.
