Consider changing the name

I think the site name is a little to obscure if your model of growth is just world of mouth I think that will just make your guys job considerably harder I suggest either market your self to a big anime fanbase, or just advertise yourself as a general Manga forum specifically. Whatever name you choose should be conscious of type of audience your trying to attract

Make it "Anime Base", "Manga Base" and your site won't stand out in Google Searches at all. It's best to have a unique name and Sugoi Desu is a fine name. You won't get that position with a generic site name.

Other than that, we have already advertised a lot with the SD name, so if it changes all our advertising efforts will go down the drain as we already have a presence with the unique name.

Sugoi Desu translates to "It's Amazing" and no one will deny that Sugoi Desu is indeed awesome.

Truth of the matter is - SD fits this site perfectly. I'm almost certain they've tried different URLs, yet this has worked best. Why go with some shit like, Manga this, Manga that. Those sites never survive, look around. Not to mention this is the definition of a weeb site, who wouldn't know what it SD stands for?

Anyways here's why a name change would backfire badly.

First you need to search a name which describes the site well and is unique plus stands out. Best of luck wasting your time brainstorming a good name.

Second you talk about downtime. When the site's name changes the site goes offline. How long could that be ? If it's a long period you are screwed. No members would stay and they will rarely come back.

Third, let's deal with loss of identity. The previous forum name had given us an identity (Ad campaigns, word of mouth advertising, etc). Now that identity is erased. Let's do tons of effort to create a new identity !

Fourth, consider back end problems with the link changing. This could lead to many images breaking. If you don't have a re-direct then all your Google search efforts are wasted as you will have to climb to the top again.

After reading all that ? No thank you, SD stays SD.

As for evidence, @Kame changed the site name from Sugoi Desu to Tsukihiro. Even though I had said that the name is perfect, it was changed. Result ? Site was in downtime for many days and we lost at least 50 active members.

Here are the numbers from my memory.

When SD was SD : 12 to 15 members online continuously.

When SD became Tsukihiro : 2 members online continuously.

We never got the majority of our lost members back only a few members stayed. Past experience is proof that a name change is counter productive and has adverse negative effects.

Finally, why are we even considering a site name change ?

Let's look at this from a new member's perspective.

>Clicks on first link and realises Sugoi Desu means "It's awesome"
> Goes back to SD and sees the massive features

Who would say that SD is not awesome ? Two people, fools and ignorant people.

Sugoi Desu is a unique name
Sugoi Desu is Japanese Language and fits the theme of a general anime-manga forum
Sugoi Desu is justified by the features that the site gives. The awesomeness factor is cemented.

I hope this post will make everyone understand that a site name change is a one way destination to Hell, ahem Disaster.

I think this shitposting thing needs to be curbed and controlled. It gives a bad impression.

About discussions centered on the main theme of the forum we are setting up something to boost posting in those sections.

The last thing is featured sections. It needs to be rotary or it will be a flopshow (I am tired of saying it again and again though).
