Ukraine is fucked becoz they though west will fight Russia for them and early success made them feel like they can win

It was a clear choice to be vassal of russia or west and they choose the latter. The problem is they want the whole world to buy in their narrative which is not happening so they are stuck with a Russia that is still trading more than half of the world and strengthening while they are totally dependent on Nato

I mean both are
Russia is itself a colonial state masquerading as friend of Global South. The only advantage it has is that it's colonial conquest were limited to its neighbours in East Europe and central Asia so rest of world doesn't buy western narrative of russia.

It is also bolstered by the genocide in Palestine which western world has pretty much actively supported which inturns show their hypocrisy and Russians have latched up to it.
They are not better than Nato but due to geopolitics they are flexible since they cannot bully the world around US and its allies. It doesn't mean if they have the power they won't
