It is heavily implied in Can't Fear Your Own World that Gremmy was Adnyeus's brain or at the very least a portion of his brain. It would certainly explain why the dude was so fukking broken and had such vast spiritual power that is described as "absurd and defied all logic" according to Liltotto.

As for Gerard:
We do not know if he is Adnyeus's heart which gained sentience and manifested a human body for itself, or if Gerard was a Quincy into whom Adnyeus's heart was transplanted. Either way, whether Gerard is the heart of Adnyeus or received the heart of Adnyeus, The Miracle is a power manifested by Adnyeus's heart itself, and thus a power Adnyeus likely once had.
