It's because we all got attached to those characters/story one way or the other. We saw the flaws and we expected the finale to fix everything, but it still insisted on everything wrong and added more wrong to it (the Aliens, Kaguya and the reincarnation stuff, which was just the cherry on the top). But the journey itself is actually one of the best things that I followed.

I mean, Naruto was not the best exemple to show how hard work can beat talent. He had the Kyuubi boosts/Uzumaki heritage in his Chakra and stamina since the beginning, and yet Kishi tried to insist that he's the ' talentless loser' of the show that gets over his weaknesses with 'hardwork'. Even though every teacher he had praised his talents/ potential and the how fast he learns (Ex: how to control his Kyuubi chakra/ a certain Kage level technique/the other different modes he had afteer that).
Though saying all that, I wont deny that he did his fair share of training and the powers he got were almost proportional to the training (but only in the first half lol), and everything was gradual unlike in other shows (and that's a plus). The powers he (and Sasuke) got LATER were just over the top.

Lee and Guy are the real deal. But for some reason Lee vs Gaara in the first season was the only and last real fight Lee got, despite being from the K12 and one of the "next generation" that is supposed to surpass their seniors (as we were taught repeatedly throughout the whole thing) it's even supposed to be one of themes of Naruto.
At least, we got Guy vs Madara which was so epic and emotional, so that's a good thing.

Yeah, the fandom were pretty toxic. They would praise a character to the heavens while ignoring any criticism about him and if that character has a rival in popularity they'd just demonize him and deny him any achievement or good traits lol. This just got more intense as we were approaching the end, everyone went crazy And the shipping was even crazier, but most of the fault was kishi's with his banal red herrings lmao.

All those fights were awesome. Actually, the fights in Naruto are one of its strong points.
