My father and I keep telling people that we're in this situation because Jaitley and Sitharaman left us with the worst economy and employment scenario in four decades in mid-2019 i.e. half a year before the pandemic.

Multiple reasons:

1. Changing gears in a two wheeler in Bangalore traffic is a pain. It's so bad that Bangalore is seeing record high scooter sales. Hell, scooters sometimes rank as the best-selling two-wheelers in Bangalore. At one point the Activa was the outright best selling two wheeler, with the TVS Jupiter at third (second among scooters).

2. Many modern scooters come with motorcycle level good telescopic front suspension and superb monoshocks on the rear. The TVS Jupiter, Scooty Zest 110, and Wego are especially well known for their good suspension set-up. Hell, TVS actually had a team of riders go in Zest 110 from Manali to Khardung La in Ladakh in order to test its durability and ride quality. The Suzuki Access 125 BS6 has great suspension as well (though the TVS ones are better).

3. Fuel injection using BS6 scooters deliver quite well on the mileage front when compared to their BS3 and even BS4 predecessors. Motoroids and Bikewale report 52 kmpl from the Jupiter in city and even higher out on highways (TVS claims 62+ but we know that figure is bullshit). The Activa 6G reports similar mileage figures. So does the Access 125 BS6 (especially notable for a 125cc scooter). By comparison, the most frugal 100cc and 125cc motorcycles from Hero, Honda, TVS (Splendour BS6, Shine BS6, Star City BS6) offer mileage figures of 55 to 60 kmpl in city (depending on traffic conditions) and at most 65 kmpl out on highway. One TVS salesman claimed 70 kmpl in city for the Star City, but that is clearly bullshit.

4. Scooters are more practical, and allow one to carry a lot more stuff. They're better for running errands and for carrying documents and shit.

5. Wife doesn't know how to drive a gear two-wheeler. And she's tiny (5'2"). Dad is 70. Jupiter is widely considered the best scooter for women and seniors.

I have actually considered an electric scooter. Availability of parts, servicing, and on-road price are factors to consider. I will cover only short distances daily, and mostly use the scooter for short commutes.

So... Motorcycle is impractical for my needs.
