Yup. First thing I did when I got that new Dell desktop in office was chuck McAfee.

Yeah, Steam has been having issues lately. And it doesn't seem to be a problem with my laptop. Similar thing apparently happened to sister in law and a cousin.

Here is the craziest part:
It wasn't even with a pirated game (though all AVs can **** with pirated game installs somehow). I bought it and downloaded it from Steam. Malwarebytes is so ******* stupid that it treated a Steam install like a malware.

Also for some reason it also treated Game trainers and software patchers as malware too

 

Many AVs still do treat dev trainers as malware.

If I want to use the infamous Halo 2 Paulus or Yelo dev trainers, or the Crysis trainers, or the DOTA auto warkeys, I have to give them special exemption in Quick Heal. Otherwise it straight up deletes them.

 

I remember when Crysis 3 internal reloaded v1.4 was released. Biggest issue was the crack being treated as malware and being deleted. They made a new release fixing that issue specifically.

And then you have the infamous FEAR cracked game. Running it would cause BSOD on Windows XP, but it ran fine on ******* Vista.

 

And then you have the famous Halo Custom Edition cracked game. It would allow you to download official updates and also allow you to play multiplayer. Well, that was until Gearbox (the company that ported Halo CE from Xbox to PC) shut down their servers.

 

It was one of the best cracks. And it was so simple. Just download the 2 GB installation file. Double click on it and let it install. That's it.

What was truly god tier about it was the fact that it kept Halo CE alive into 2020.
