It is really good reminds me of Boruto.

 

They always default to aliens in manga/anime sequels these days.

They used to be obsessed with deities/demons from alternate worlds during the 1980s and 1990s. Yu Yu Hakusho is the best example I can think of off the top of my head. However, a new generation of mangaka inspired by Dragon Ball Part 2, Sailor Moon, and western works such as Star Wars and Star Trek resulted in a wave of manga/anime focusing more on aliens from other planets rather than than demons from alternate worlds. The authors of One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, MHA, JJK and many from their generation are known fans of Star Wars and Star Trek even. There are other factors as well, such as shifting cultural norms and such.

What I find hilarious is: The series from my profile pic and sig, Terra e (Toward the Terra), is a sci-fi series spanning an entire arm of the Milky Way galaxy. Yet we don't see one damn alien in either the movie or 2007 anime. We only see a handful of aliens in the epilogue of the manga.

Note: The manga, movie, 2007 anime are all their own separate canon/continuity.

However, we have aliens in fukking supernatural and fantasy series.
