blud I'd be real, I feel sorry for people who watch OP for the first time ever and they start with OPLA. It's insanely bad. The focus on wrong stuff, the pacing is too fast and you can't even connect to anyone at all. Every episode is a new island, it's just too fast.

Though I get there's too many stuff to cover but Jesus, why do we focus on fodder characters and portray fodder characters stronger than they are LOL

Youtube on TV just keeps getting worse and worse.

Youtube on TV will get unskippable 30-second ads, unless you get youtube premium. And even with the lowest tier of premium lite, you will still get ads, just with a skip button after 5 seconds.

Oh, and another thing for those who don't have premium: if the ad that plays before the video is longer than 30 seconds, you get a skip button after 21 seconds.

And before anyone asks why I watch youtube on TV when I have a smartphone and two laptops: I don't. My mom watches on the TV. And she sometimes wants to watch documentaries with me on the TV (a long-time bonding habit of ours). She is visually challenged, and the TV is large (54 inch).

Just awful!! I don't think you can block youtube ads with DNS can you because it's self-hosted (url for ad is same as the url for youtube)? The only thing I can really think of is either using youtube on another device and casting to the tv (may not work) or getting some older laptop and connecting it to the tv so she can use the tv as a monitor and then use a browser + adblock favorited and teach her how to access it via the favourites + (cheap wireless keyboard + mouse for couch operation).

The DNS method blocks some ads, but not all. And, yes, I can try using youtube on another device and casting to the TV.

My mother does indeed know how to use computers/laptops as well as keyboard plus mouse. She had to use a desktop at work for 30+ years.

Not sure if the casting thing would work, but worth a shot, next best idea is a cheap laptop/pc/nuc hooked up with wireless keyboard and mouse. I wonder if you could even use like a raspberry pi set up? idk. xD

I could take my old Lenovo B490, install Linux in it, and connect it to the TV?

I would assume that would work fine. Then just take your pick of browser that also support ublock origin and you're good.

There are many browsers which support ublock origin and privacy badger that work fantastically on Linux.

    Firefox-based:
Firefox, Librewolf, Waterfox, Zen, Mullvad, Tor.
^ Mullvad and Tor are obviously out of the question for basic users. Stock Firefox has some performance issues (probably negligible) on Linux. The remaining three are obviously the better choices.

    Chromium-based:
Vivaldi, Brave, and quite a few others.
^ The first one is probably the best choice for basic users on Linux, despite the complicated setting/customisation menus. Install it with ublock origin plus privacy badger and you are solid. Chrome, Opera, and especially MS Edge can suck my farts.

Yup loads support linux nowadays which is good, plus with the lower overhead of linux, it should work very well on the older machine.
