blooda it's 80 bucks off that's top tier considering game's not even out yet.

On instantgaming where I usually buy, is 48 euros atm. 30% off on standard edition

I think you need to reread what I wrote. I got the standard for friend and higher edition for myself.

A cousin of mine is gifting me a brand new Google Pixel 8a.

While this is a good gesture, there are some issues:
    * Small 6.1 inch display is going to be an issue, since I have taken to reading more ebooks and comics on mobile, watching stuff on mobile, and also doing some work shit on mobile.
    * 128 GB with no expandable storage. I have to either use cloud or USB-C pen drive.
    * Utterly dogshit signal reception strengths. Half that of the Galaxy A55. This is a major issue, since our office has bad coverage. And I desperately need strong reception qualities in a phone for when I visit certain sites with bad reception (which I do regularly). Upload/Download speeds are very impressive when under good coverage, but this is meaningless in areas of moderate or low coverage.
    * The device is one of the worst when it comes to PWM, according to notebookcheck and cybershack. I have a bad migraine problem to begin with, and this display's PWM could be a major health concern.

I don't know what to do, bro. I can live with the low storage and small display. But the signal reception and display PWM issues are major.

I don't want to hurt his feelings, since he spent money on this, and he's a cousin who I love very very much and am very very close with.

    Goodnight, boob vampire.

I can't talk from experience since I never had a google pixel but inb4 you call me a Samsung fanboy...

...honestly, at this point, why don't you just commit and buy the Samsung S23 Ultra? It's probably much cheaper now since S25 is about to be announced?

Sure, it could still be odd 700 euros but man, when you think about it, phone is your personal assistant, you use it nearly whole day, and when you use it, you don't want the struggle.

I never had an Ultra version of Samsung before (have S23 ultra now), I switched from S20+ to an Ultra and honestly, my God. The difference. The pure difference in performance and day to day stuff. Just do it.

I tried using my bro's phone and I couldn't, I am so used to pin point performance that you just feel it.

ALSO you get an S pen which I thought I'd never use....I use it so often for notes and stuff.

If I were you, I'd say thanks cousin but I was about to buy myself a new phone :/

I can't stress enough how good of a value NOW S23 Ultra is. I use it daily, for work and personal stuff, in 2 years, not a single hindrance, it's just smooth and bro...THE BATTERY, last a whole ass day and then some, that changed my life. S20+ I needed to recharge mid day, now, I woke up at 5:30 in the morning, did a whole ass shift at work, came home, did some tiktok....and I still have 50%, now's 19 o'clock.

I swear S23 Ultra will change your life. Beautiful screen, wonderful performance, big ass battery which lasts, s pen AND my phone signal is great.

I wouldn't think a second about a phone especially if you use it daily for work and some personal stuff.

P.S I have 256 gbs, and I barely used 45% of it. I take pictures daily at work and stuff. I say that because I am sure you could buy the 512gb 12gb ram version for so cheap now.

    @Gobb

Okay... So the signal reception issues in the Pixel 8a might be limited to the Aussie and some other region-specific variant? The EU and US variants (the one I'm receiving is the US sub-6 variant) apparently do somewhat well? Not as good as Snapdragon using flagships, but satisfactory...? I guess I'll just have to shove a sim in there and check myself in this one black spot I know nearby.

Also... The display PWM? Apparently, an aunt of mine (also moderately PWM sensitive) got used to her personal Galaxy S23 quickly and her hospital-issued iphone 13 in a month. The Pixel 8a uses the same panel as the S23 and a far superior one to the iphone 13? I'll just check it out and decide for myself.

No complaints. I'm a huge fan of Samsung mobiles as well.

As much as I complain about their antenna tuning, I do love their devices.

I was never going to buy anything above Galaxy A35 or A55 in price. I don't even need anything more than those. They're going for the equivalent of Euro 340 and 420 respectively for the 8GB/256GB variants right now, by the way. That was my budget limit.

Bro, if I had the budget, I would have gotten an S23 variant last year. With me doing more and more shit on mobile these days, I have realized the importance of performance in a phone (especially for multi-tasking). Pixel 8a is not too far off in this regard from S23, by the way. The Tensor G3 chip it uses is based on a Samsung Exynos 2000 series flagship grade SOC and it has decently fast UFS 3.1 internal storage (versus UFS 2.2 on the Samsung Galaxy A35 and Motorola Edge 50 Pro). It has performance (at least CPU-wise) on the same level as Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (single core) and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 (multi core). GPU is 40% weaker, but that doesn't matter since this is going to see no gaming at all, other than some light ones that run on entry level devices from five years ago (like Sudoku and such shit).

I have 128 GB right now, and have used up 75% of it. Funny thing is that much of that is from downloaded movies and TV shows. I'll just move them to a separate device and connect to the Pixel via USB-C when needed, I guess? It has strong USB support now after the July 2024 update to fix USB-related shit. Just need a good USB-C drive for on-the-go entertainment.

    PS:
Okay, it has Qi wireless charging. That is actually not bad for this price range. Literally only three other devices in the world with this feature in this budget bracket.
