I think it's a cultural problem in addition to the number of guns owned by the general population. For example, a lot of people in Switzerland own guns yet you don't hear about anywhere near as many mass shootings there as you do in the US.

It's the ridiculously lenient gun control laws and US authorities not taking seriously the threat of Christian and White Supremacist extremists as well as mentally ill 'Murican soil born people going on a rampage. As with a vast majority of previous mass shooting cases, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it turned out this was perpetrated by a mentally ill 'Murican who bought his guns & ammo 100% legally without a proper background check done on him.

True. Look at the Czech Republic, France, Scandinavian nations, and Canada. Gun culture their is prevalent and the gun ownership rates are very high. But these are all among the most peaceful and safest countries. The authorities in these countries actually make sure guns don't fall into the hands of nuts (right winger nuts) and mentally ill people.

 

But having a gun doesn't automaticaly mean you need to kill someone with it
