He was triggered and cared about her, just not in the romantic sense (in the last itself they make fun of it as Naruto can't tell the difference between loving food and loving people, it's all the same to him). Both Naruto and Sasuke kinda get into their relationships with a "ok you're fine" after their girl nags them enough.
