I don't see why being an atheist would necessitate one to be a communist or a proponent of any other political system in general.

Sure, some ideologies have atheism as an element and if one is persuaded by those ideologies they will also likely be drawn to atheism (though not necessarily as even marxism wasn't always explicitly atheistic so much as apatheistic in that it found the question of God useless) but atheism as a starting point doesn't really point to any particular system.

Indian atheists tended to have a high tendency to lean towards communism. Hence that remark. It's only in modern times that Indian youth are leaning towards atheism without leaning towards communism.

It always bugs me when left leaners (even centre-left) are "accused" of being atheists or atheists are "accused" of being communists. It's stupid on two counts. The first is that all left wingers must be atheists and vice-versa. The second is that all of those labels are thrown around as if they're something to be ashamed of or are criminal or something.

I guess some of that mentality might have rubbed off on me as well. Hence that remark of mine previously (well, a second reason).

This one British comedian on YouTube (forgot his name) best summed up Communism: A naive and angry little child with a Kalashnikov rifle.
