But I'm not satisfied that he said anything remotely like that though. And besides, while scum have certainly done exactly this in my experience, so too have Town, so it is hardly indicative of alignment in any case.

Still I felt like you were a bit too quick to jump to conclusions there, and this feels a bit like backtracking. I suppose benefit of the doubt is in order and all, but eh.

Well no, it's still scummy. You completely misrepresented the situation at first, and then backtracked pretty quickly on it. While, as I said, benefit of the doubt should be applied, it doesn't change the fact that your start to this game has been scummy, and I'm not fond of this "well you must be new if you say this" reasoning either.

I was going to ask why your first post was to ask if you could abstain, but thankfully this explains it. Again, though, not lynching just doesn't offer Town anything. The Town win con, remember, is not to preserve Town, and it's not like we are operating under a survival victory here either. The Town wins when it kills scum. To kill scum, we kinda need the lynch. There's just no sense in missing a lynch because we're more likely to kill Town with it - if we were to follow that logic, we'd never lynch!

Now this just doesn't make sense. Your whole point on not lynching was based on the fact that more likely than not Town are wrong Day 1. Why, then, would all of your suspects be justified in said suspicion based on your Day 1 reads, which you yourself must acknowledge are highly likely to be thin on the ground at best realistically? Not only that, everyone you mentioned? You are operating under the assumption here that the only reason you would be killed is due to naming scum, and this simply is not true. There are a plethora of reasons for a Night 1 kill, many of which are similar to your own logic that results in you believing you should abstain from voting, so this whole point simply falls through.

    Also,
Nah, I just feel like we utilize the lynch better starting from Day 2 because we have felt each other Day 1, and can infer information from the results of the NP.
However, I'm not trying to convert anyone here, especially since I know quite well the other side of the coin which is, if you lynch D1, you have some chance (although minimal) of lynching a scum, whereas abstaining diminishes those chances to 0%.

    Also,
I was only referring to why it wouldn't be reasonable to kill me, also, in my follow post I said as much:

I think there is logic to it, it's how many scum/assassins.
If Y calls out X, and vouches for Scum A. Scum A then kills Y.
That way X would immediately fall under suspicion and Scum A get a stronger town lean.

Of course a lot of my logic was tinfoil xD I'll admit that. But to completely disregard it isn't wise.

Right, but that is just one of multiple possibilities. My point was to say, there is no reason they'd suddenly all fall under scrutiny due to them appearing in the Day 1 reads of a Town-aligned player. I'm not saying to disregard the thought entirely, but as an argument, it doesn't stand up as it doesn't actually prove anything. For example, if a player was to turn around and say "I think X is scum because Y, who was just killed and flipped Town said so", X can simply turn around and point out that the Y kill was merely an attempt to frame X, and so on. We're approaching WIFOM territory here, but in general it just doesn't very well as an argument in Mafia.

As for my Lynching Day 1 point, you correctly point out that we can gain something from the Night Phase, but that is pretty limited compared to the information a lynch can give. For example, let's say there are two okay lynches Day 1. Not great, so we abstain. Where does that leave us with them Day 2? Do we continue to pursue a lynch there, do we just forget it and move on? In addition to this, it's much harder to read into behavioural interactions between players who were night killed as opposed to players who were lynched, as scum have time to think about who they want to kill and why in the Night, but in the Day, generally, not always, but generally, especially during the early cycles, scum have to play it by ear a bit and that is the kind of behaviour that is most telling. To word it another way - it's much easier to spot scum from their interactions with lynched players than it is to spot scum from their interactions with killed players. By not lynching Day 1 we lose that entirely.

I completely understand that which is why I said as much lol.
But you have to understand this is only one school of thought you are promoting, and it has pros and cons.

I agree wholeheartedly that interactions between those who are lynched can and do reveal a good amount of information, but Day 1 lynching still has pros and cons. Also, although preserving the town isn't the win condition, it 100% stalls the win condition of mafia xD.

Furthermore, it's not the only way to get information, it's only one of many effective ways. o3o

Anyway, I repeat, I'm not here to convert anyone.
By all means, go forth and lynch :k

ok so, i just came home, so i'll read up on this

Back in FTB, the games that were played didn't reveal the roles that were in the game at the very beginning, so it's a little different. However, even from the list that was given in those rules, I assume that not necessarily all of the roles are in there or something. idk, never played one of these before, so I'll go how i usually
