I'm interested how he got so powerful. He basically moped the floor with Goku and still didn't take much damage when Goku went Ultra Instinct mode.

 

Yeah, and what was up with those eyes? I wonder if it has anything to do with the whole self mastery thing. Cause I feel like Jiren has been doing it the whole time.

 

There are so many questions that this episode just gave out. Especially that "heat" Goku emitted.

 

So... they give Goku yet another form (further making this a one-man show) and then they misuse it in favor of putting focus on Hit...

Like, why? Why did this show end up getting such bad writing.

 

Honestly, I doubt it's a form like SSJ or SSJ Blue. It's more akin to Kaioken in the fact that it's a technique that anyone could use. The Ultra Instinct thing is really something that put in perspective of just how strong Jiren was. Even when Goku landed a hit it did nothing to him at all.

What was the bad writing part though? Yes, there are some inconsistencies, but other than that, what was "bad writing"?

 

How about the entire tournament arc (save for a few good moments mostly revolving around Frieza)? I explained this already in a previous post:

To add on to this, the whole idea of introducing a new form per arc and even more so making the form look underwelming is a huge issue and unfortunately a pattern we saw repeatedly in this show. SS Blue? Let's have Goku beaten by laser beam. Vegito Blue? Let's have him get beat by Zamasu and do nothing relevant. This new form? Let's have him look cool for 5 mins and then switch the focus to a different char while the guy who has it waits around until it builds up again.

This is not how you handle power ups. By the time they get to the big moments that have to do with these forms a lot of the hype and the magic of the moment when the form was revealed is long gone because of all the padding in between the form first appearing and it finally doing something significant. There is a way better and way more natural way of handling all this. Super's flow is highly incoherent.

I mean to each his own. But the one thing that is consistent is that the people we actually care about, Hit and Jiren, are people that we have come to actually want to know about. So to say that a huge number of fighters are unimaginative is slightly dull, because honestly we don't care much about their looks, we just want to see what each universe could show. Honestly what's more surprising is that universe 7 may have the most prolific fighters in the tournament. But the strongest was always established as Jiren. That had never changed.

Your point of not having a lot of the fighters backstory explained might be a little lacked, because you want tension in the fights. The tension can only come from if you don't know the outcome. Honestly the last episode was far more tense than any other because we did not know if Goku could beat Jiren. Tension also comes from something that you want from the character your routing for. Like winning a high stake fight. But you can't get the same tension unless your invested in the characters. That's way too much time to invest in so a lot of the characters are fodderized. Hence why your upset.
I like the battle royale more because characters like Tien and Krillin can shine. I don't think those episodes were dull either. Can't comment on Frost since he's a SOB in his own right, plus I've come to not trust Frieza.
The Roshi thing I personally saw through, but the way it was meant to be portrayed was that this would be his final fight. But, whether it was executed right is up to the audience.
I'm not gonna comment nor rate the anime since I'm enjoying it for what it is.
New form per arc? Honestly, if the whole Trunks sayian rate thing was a form then I'll concede in saying that there really hasn't been a new form at all. Ssg infused with ssj just means blue hair. Ok fine, now kaioken with blue hair isn't a new form. Think of it like adding nitro to a bike. It doesn't change anything except power output. The Ultra Instinct mode, well that might be a halfway point. It's definitely new, but it isn't accessible to only sayians.

Honestly, handling power ups are like handling radioactive waste, you really need to be careful where you dump it. To me this was fine because there were many things that Whis talked about that inherently came together. The hype was coming from the fact that many of us wanted to see Jiren fight and body Goku, that happened. Next was how would he get that new form that was leaked everywhere, and lastly how strong would that form be. The fact that Goku still had trouble with landing a punch on Jiren just means that the situation is that much more dire for U7. What you said was that this new form took too long to get something done. But, I beg to differ. This episode has been widely acclaimed already and not just because of the new form but to the art and music that brought everything together to make this episode seem fast pace. The form had over ten minutes of screen time or a little less but that is still half an episode worth of showing a lot. Like I said to each his own. You like what you like, but at the end of the day, art can only be judged by the eye of the beholder.
