They probably hate him, because he's an obstacle for their TatsXMiyuki ship. The same reason Miyuki fags hate Mayumi.

I wouldn't expect a war till close to the end and we've got awhile till that happens.

 

Well the series is only going to cover their three years at first high, so unless Satou plans to make a sequel, it would probably happen toward the end of 3rd year.

Tatsuya sat down in front of him with a nonchalant look after hearing Katsuto's voice (offer), and didn't let out a that he was thinking about such thing to anyone.

真由美は克人の斜め前、つまり達也の隣の席を選んだ。特に意味は無い、はずだ。達也と真 由美は並んでこのテーブルまで来たのだから、その位置関係のままに腰を落ち着けただけだろう、と達也は考えることにした。
Mayumi chose the seat that was next to Tatsuya and, diagonally in front of Katsuto. It should be noted that there was not particular meaning to it. Because Tatsuya and Mayumi came to this table side by side, it was probably only after they settled down in the position relations (without changing it) that Tatsuya decided to think about that.

He was called by Mari, and the story that he was told was still fresh in Tatsuya's mind. Whether or not that was the case, it will be a lie if he said that he wasn’t indeed conscious of Mayumi. However, It was not even the case that he had the capacity to be able to view Mayumi like that (as a partner).

達也は深雪の気持ちを受け止めて、彼女の婚約者となった。だが、深雪の想いを受け容れた わけではなかった。
Tatsuya accepted Miyuki's feelings and became her fiancée. But, it was not that he accepted Miyuki's love (/affection).

彼にとって、深雪はまだ妹だ。
As far as he was concerned, Miyuki was still his younger sister.

今はまだ、恋愛感情を持てない。
He still does not yet have romantic feelings (for her).

深雪の想いにどう応えるかは決めていても、自分の心がそこに至っていない。
Even if he had decided about how to respond to Miyuki's love, his heart hasn't reached that place (yet).

恋愛方面に関する達也のキャパシティは深雪だけで一杯一杯だ。真由美のことまで気に掛け ていたら仕事に支障を来す。だから彼は、真由美をそういう相手として考えないようにしてい たのだった。
Tatsuya's capacity in relation to the area of (love/affections/emotion) was only limited to Miyuki. (He thought that) If he still continued to be concerned about Mayumi, it will become an hindrance to the work (at hand).
Therefore, he had decided that he was going to make sure that he did not think about Mayumi as such partner.

Together with Katsuto, Mayumi, Masaki and Tatsuya they going to searches for Gu Jie whereabouts. However, an unexpected opponent hinders Tatsuya who caught in the trail.

Their true identity was the USNA army. Major Benjamin Canopus, No.2 of Stars , takes part in the war.

This enrages Tatsuya because of the unexpected appearance. Saegusa Mayumi and Juumonji Katsuto going to search, while Ichijou Masaki is fighting.

Various people waver, the worst case that shouldn't happen will happen because of Gu Jie that have "magic that can manipulates dead bodies".

• The base of operations is in Tokyo because Saegusa and Juumonji are taking the lead/coordinating the search. Tokyo area is under their jurisdiction. That is why he has to go to 1st high because his father says he is sending his son on behalf of his clan and Maya says she sends Tatsuya on behalf of Yotsuba. After the attack, all the branch heads take a helicopter ride to the Kanto Magic Association HQ to discuss strategy. After Maya and Gouki say they will send Tatsuya and Masaki, Futatsugi head, older lady, says that they should think about the boys' school despite the crisis, maybe being absent so long is frowned upon. Maya says that Tatsuya has achieved so much in school it is no problem. Gouki says she has a point but their duty to investigate takes precedence.

• After the meeting, Gouki and Masaki return to Kanazawa. Gouki tells him he's telling his school he will be excused for the rest of the school year. Principal of 3rd high convinces Gouki that he should let his son transfer instead to 1st high since it is in the area and let him finish the year. There's only one month left of the school year. Katsuto, Mayumi and Tatsuya have their 1st meeting at Magic Uni cafe. After Masaki gets to 1st high, Tatsuya tells him the plan and about their meetings, he is not there for the 1st meeting.

• Finished reading the book and wasnt sure what to think about it I mean the last volume ended with a bang quite literally and thought it will continue to this volume but majority of it is spent on the school part, well there is Tatsuya hunting with Yoshimi(?).

• Ayako and Fumiyas cousin is a welcome scene for me but not really the main focus. I read in previous post about Miyuki having doubts about her engagement with Tatsuya but I havent read that in the book, the thing that is bothering Miyuki is how to act properly with Tatsuya now that they are engaged, miyuki is thinking before even if she acts all jealous or anything Tatsuya wouldnt leave her and she has the greatest shield she is his sister but now that they are engaged she was afraid that if she still acts or show her jealousy.

• Tatsuya might not like it and cancel their engagement which scares the living daylights out of her that is why she doesnt show or suppressed her jealousy a good example would be during a video conversation between Tatsuya,Miyuki and Maya, Maya asks about how is the meeting that Tatsuya is taking part on , and reminded Tatsuya that it is fine to get along with them(Katsuto,Mayumi,Masaki)but not too well because the only reason that Mayumi is included in the meeting is proposed by Koichi and not Katsuto so that Mayumi and Tatsuya could meet and according to Maya so that the two of them could date. Before if Miyuki heard anything like that she will immediately burst but now she not acting up, although Tatsuya could see that she is just bearing with it, Tatsuya thought that it is a sign that Miyuki is growing up.

• Maeda Chizuru

Maeda Chizuru is 3rd High School Principal. She also went to the 3rd High School with Ichijou Gouki. She was one year senior. She is very informal for a school principal, but she is hiding her true character while working as a principal. When she attended the 3rd High School, she was excelled in skill test without any equals. Even Gouki got his nose broken by her. ("Breaking nose" is proverb for breaking one's pride. It means, Chizuru may have defeated Gouki with test scores.)

Chizuru used to work for Japanese Navy Force but she left the Navy due to the trouble with senior officer regarding the group sexual harassment. Her military rank was Lieutenant Junior Grade when she left the Navy.

• Shinonome Yoshimi

Shinonome Yoshimi is 21 Years old and a cousin of Kuroba twins. Her father is older brother of Kuroba twins' deceased mother. She never attended Magic high school, and she attended a communication(cyber) high school (通信高等學校; it is a high school program for ones who cannot attend the school physically.) because she has been working on search-type missions.

Yoshimi always wears the same look: a casquette, a large sunglasses, and a muffler scarf that covers up to the bottom of her nose.

• Kuroba Ayako

Ever since Tatsuya's engagement to Miyuki, Ayako has been trying to accept the reality. Ayako is no longer holding herself back towards Tatsuya, so she is more open to Tatsuya, and the distance between Tatsuya and Ayako seems shortened. (The author used the word, 辭讓 (it means restrain, reserve, and holding back))

• Chiba Toshikazu

Erika dislikes Toshikazu because when Erika was young and was training with Toshikaze, Toshikaze beat her up until she cannot stand. (whenever they trained together). So, even Toshikaze jokes, it gets on Erika's nerve. In addition, his words also pierce through the deep inside of Erika's mind, so it makes her mad even more.

• Fujibayashi Kyouko

Fujibayashi Kyouko makes a scene in this volume. She disappointed that Toshikazu did not know her promotion. She assumes, if he is interested in her, he should be able to register her name into search engine. At the end, she felt lonely after misunderstanding the entire situation. (Toshikazu was simply too busy with dealing aftermath of Yokohama incident and Vampire (parasite) incident).

• Sawamura Maki

Sawamura Maki is actually only one year older than Shippo Takuma. ( I am currently double-checking this with the translator.) When Takuma visited Maki, she was planning to treat him well and sent him home. But, after she realizes how much Takuma has changed and was impressed with Takuma, she tried to cross the line regardless of Tatsuya's warning. But, Takuma stopped her by asking for a help. Takuma said, he will do anything for this favor. According to the narrator, Takuma will regret for this favor but will keep his words. He will make a debut on screen as an actor who plays an opposite role of Maki while attending Magic University.

(If Mahouka ends with the high school, at least we know Tatsuya will not blow the world to kingdom come.

• Gu Jie is not aided by the military. He is just using enhanced soldiers from Jama Base; this facility is operated by both Japanese military and USNA military. This is one of dark secrets that Japanese military wants to hide because this place is the evidence that can prove, the Japanese military supplied Japaneses to USNA for human experimentations.

• Honoka is not Masaki x Miyuki shipper. Honoka strategically used Masaki to distract Miyuki while Honoka was approaching Tatsuya. The narrator also added his comments on the similarity between war and dating in order to justify Honoka's action.

• Tatsuya was relieved that Honoka was with Shizuku, but he did not want to spend time with Honoka not because he has a bad feeling towards her. It was mainly because of his mission to catch Gu Jie. Tatsuya is having trouble tracking Gu Jie ever since USNA interfered with him at Jama base.

• Ono Haruka is not shown in the vol.18. But, she is mentioned in the volume when the narrator explains about Toshikazu's ability to conceal just like Haruka. The narrator mentions, Toshikazu's ability is not as good as Haruka, but his ability is still the first class.

Tatsuya, Mayumi, Katsuto had their first meeting at Katsuto's house, not in the university. It's Katsuto who suggested the idea of Tatsuya escorted Mayumi too (lol).


About Tatsuya and Mayumi scene: Mayumi was in a hurry so she forgets to bring her umbrella, Tatsuya offered his one, after a series of funny awkward moments (Mayumi refused, He offered.... Etc), Those two finally agreed to share the same umbrella.

When Tatsuya came back, Miyuki smells woman fragrance on his suit, she was extremely jealous, but she didn't show it cause she feared that Tatsuya will hate her and cancel the engagement .

Yotsuba had organized two operations to catch Jiedo, the first one failed due to the code messages got decrypted, the second had the intervene of USNA.

After the first operation. Maya, called to Shiba house , she instructed them, they would exchange information by letters from now on. She also reminded Tatsuya that he should not overly close with Mayumi, She said it may be Koichi's scheme to "shipped" two of them.

Jiedo uses enhanced soldiers, they are the results of inhuman experiments carried by USNA and Japan.

Kazama allowed Tatsuya to use MB.

There were also many details implied that Tasuya would leave 101 due to the Army involved too deeply in helping Jiedo.

 

Clarifications on the latest update.

1. Katsuto suggested Tatsuya to escort Mayumi at the second meeting, which was held nearby University because it is too late, and Katsuto had an additional meeting. Tatsuya was planning to escort Mayumi to her home, but Mayumi indirectly rejected the idea by saying, "Do you want to visit my home? You will be welcomed."

Saegusa Koichi appointed Mayumi as a messenger between Juumonji and Saegusa in this operation. Katsuto slowly assumes, Koichi's true intention is to make opportunities for Mayumi and Tatsuya to meet.

2. Gu Jie used Hliðskjálf (フリズスキャルヴ) to monitor Kuroba. This is how he found out. By the way, Gu Jie cannot use Hliðskjálf (フリズスキャルヴ) anymore after the first escape from Yotsbua. Raymond Clark somehow contacted the operator of Hliðskjálf (フリズスキャルヴ) (the narrator does not explain how Raymond contacted him). And, He requested the operator to remove Gu Jie's access to Hliðskjálf (フリズスキャルヴ).

3. The one who is delivering a letter from Maya to Tatsuya, is Shinonome Yoshimi.

4. Kazama does not allow Tatsuya to use MB. He allowed Tatsuya to use Mist Dispersion . In the volume, the author did not use the word, Mist Dispersion (ミスト・ディスパージョン) but used 雲散霧消, which is the same as Mist Dispersion（ミスト・ディスパージョン) In the series, the author has been using both 雲散霧消 and ミスト・ディスパージョン for Mist Dispersion.

Chapter 7

• It starts from yakumo teaching tatsuya about ghostwalker.(tatsuya requested it) another thing to note is that since he is not a disciple of the temple, yakumo can't teach him any magic. It was noted that modern magic and traditional magic has a lot of similarities

• There is some explanation of how ghostwalker worked. Then there was some training on how to counter it. After that , he went back to school. During lunch , all of tatsuya friends gathered. there was a news broadcast made by the terrorists. It basically says that they want to release people from magicians, if magicians are not exiled, more sacrifices will be made.

• Then the reporter criticized magicians that instead of protecting themselves, they should prioritise others more. Then the group make various points to rebut the news report. Right now, politicians blame the terrorists for the most part. But if the anti magicians opinion continues to rise, the anti magician politicians would be happy to follow.

• Izumi and kanon had a fight. Kanon was complaining that 10mc did not respond to the crisis properly and should have saved civilians. This resulted in people blaming magicians. Izumi defended by saying that 10mc are also civillians and are not different from other civilian.

• 101 does not participate in the search because they do not want to be seen as a ally to the 10mc because 101 announced to everyone that they will catch gu jie. Thus, anyone who is seen helping them will be seen as an ally

Chapter 8

• Miyuki practices with masaki. Quite amusing that masaki underestimated first high curriculum. They are supposed to change the colour of a white ball in order of red, green blue for ten times in 30 sec. The goal is to finish this in exactly 30 sec, with minimal time difference. Masaki was able to end it 0.7 sec before whereas honoka and miyuki was able to end it exactly 30 sec. This practice was to allow the student to learn how to end magic so that they do not over burden themself. Masaki is doing it for the first time so I think him not getting the hang of it is natural. It is noted that third high focus combat more while first high focus more on the small details. He was supposed to learn how to cast magic under a cover in third high.

• Honoka invited masaki to lunch. They just talked over the lunch table. Miyuki and tatsuya seem ok with him. Tatsuya even praised him for being an excellent magician. The reason why honoka was so that miyuki will be kept busy by masaki while she get closer to tatsuya. They talked about masaki involvement in the search, tease masaki a bit, then talk the class they had just now.

• About tatsuya talked to kazuma. Tatsuya does not like gu jie as his puppet magic goes against his ideal of stopping magicians to become tools of war. The enhance soldiers were from a training facility that is a joint research with the usna. It is also stated that when those enhanced soilders escape, the 10mc will kill them. This reminded me of the part of yuutosei where the fire guy escaped into the mall. he asked kazuma to take care of the aftermath which implied that he is going to use mist dispersion on ally millitary troops.

• Also gu jie is near the base and not in the base.

• Part of the invasion of gu jie hiding place. Ayako, fumiya and yoshimi were there with tatsuya. Ayako and fumiya guard the exit while tatsuya search for gu jie.there is a lot of action. Tatsuya is able to use Psion to control his body and his body is able to maintain the structural information of his body, even if the limit of his body is past, it will not cause burden, harm the body. Just when he almost get gu jie, multiple bullets were coming at him.

• 3 hours ago , usna reached the base (which had the training facility). He asked for permission to kill fugitives that ran away (The base commander knew about the parasite incident). Back to present, tatsuya is able to dodge and fend off the bullets. If it was jsdf, he would have just used mist dispersion. But he decided to hide his magic. He dismantled the guns, knocked him out, took off his bulletproof vest and regrowth the guns back. He use elemental sight trying to find gu jie and found out the attack on ayako and fumiya.

• Fumiya reacted to the enemy and disabled him by using direct pain. A smoke grenade was thrown, making the area hard to see. Direct pain require sight on the target for it to work. Usna used casting interference device (introduce noise to the cad), causing problems to fumiya casting magic to blow the smoke away . Fujitsu had to double the Psion output to cast the magic. The smoke cleared and the enemy increased to 5, with 2 people using the device. Fumiya ordered ayako to retreat. The enemy tried to stop her but was flying kicked by fumiya. He was cut by a knife in the same time. Ayako flashbanged a incoming enemy and fumiya disabled him wig magic. In order to protect fumiya from the rifle shooting, ayako has to continous cast barrier. The reason why ayako pseudo teleport out and fumiya unable to hit everyone with direct pain at the same time was due to the casting interference device. When fumiya was going to take down the gunners recklessly, tatsuya appeared and cad noise disappeared.

• The reason why tatsuya did not go directly to the roof (where ayako and fumiya were) was that he did not want to get hit during mid air and spread sleeping gas in the first and second floor to not let innocent doctors and nurse to be involved. Tatsuya decomposed the device, masking with a sound of gunshot. Bullet was shot at him but he caught with his hand.(same as Yokohama). This caused the soldier to stun. He decomposed a hole in the body of the 5 soldiers. He casted regrowth on fumiya. Tatsuya then shot the 5 guy in the hole to pretend it is a gunshot. Tatsuya wants the enemy to be left behind as it would be troublesome and they give no clues. They brought back the corpse of the 2 generator.

• Benjamin ordered to collect the corpse after yotsuba left. Usna is tracking gu jie through satellite using his pison signature (this was collected as a precaution for refugee in their country). Following orders, Benjamin wanted to hinder Japan investigation and think of a way to kill gu jie off borders out in the sea.

Afterword:

• The story has finally reached volume 18. No matter if it is tatsuya and miyuki, they are going to be third year, there is a feeling that the story is closer to the end. Therefore.....actually it is not like that, recently less descriptive plot, missing plot has become more cared for than before. .......no, maybe the cause is actually the finishing line getting closer. Previously decided 2 volumes of master clan conference turn into 3 volume, is also due to "this must be written in", "adding this is better"...... Always non -stop thinking of adding content which was the cause.

• For example, according to the original plot of volume 18, there was no raymond, but even if there is a small difference in the position between him and the other six, even if it is just a hint of the setting, maybe it is better to mention it a bit. When writing halfway through, there was a same thought again. Kyokou and toshikazu part has increased along the way. Just like that plot is continuously added and so, the total volume has increased at the end. Talking about missing plot that I have cared for more, for example, during steeplechase, the coincidental meeting of Erika and Leo, i have been constantly worrying about it. Although there is no plan for writing side story first before writing the main story,

• I plan to write next about Leo and Erika side story after finishing master clan conference arc. Even said so, it is not a decision that I can make on my own, the only thing decided is that vol 19 is the last of the master clan conference arc. I will quickly write the next book (master clan conference part 3), so please look forward to it..

Gu jie is unhappy and anxious. His objective is to make citizens antagonize the magicians and japan magicians, driven by society, will sacrifice the 10mc. Yotsuba being part of 10mc will be buried by society. However, he thinks that things will calm down before any major change is to happen. He had sworn to take revenge on the ones that humiliated him but it became impossible when yotsuba wiped them. Unable to find a target, he directed his revenge onto yotsuba. The terrorist attack was to deny japanese magicians of their contributions. He wanted to exact revenge before he pass away. The reason why he is able to be so elusive was due to zhou's connection. Not being able to use hlidskjalf was a blow to him but having loyal allies is more reliable. In order to leave the country, he needed to have to get a stronger pawn, someone stronger from japanese military than enhanced magicians. He remembered from one friend that a disciple of a magician family is imprinted. He thought of a plan to use the imprinted disciple to lure out the people from the magician family.
There was another protest near the parliament but there was no riot. 2nd high students were attacked by anti-magician people. On his way home, Tatsuya, after hearing the incident, went back to school. The student council was planning to call 2nd high. Minoru, vice-president of 2nd high, picked up the call. Minoru told them what happen during the attack. 6, aged around 20 year old, guys surrounded a first year girl of 2nd high. They started to sprout humanist message. The girl tried to call the police but was stop by one of the guys. Other students heard the commotion and tried to help out. Thus, a fight broke out. One of the girl student used magic to neutralise the guys. The students suffered some major injuries while the guys suffered minor injuries (one of the guys had high blood pressure, the magic cause his heart to beat irregularly). Minoru still do not whether it was excessive self-defense and had to wait for their president to come back. After the call, they were discussing whether this will result in laws of using magic as self-defense, or even worse if magicians have the right of self-defense.
