He might not be going all out, but to say that he is not trying is simply not true. He literally said in this latest chapter that Luffy is giving him trouble to a degree.

Of course, the degree which he is trying depends on "stressful" in this context in addition to the "It's the same for me" which Luffy said he was getting more tired from dodging. Stressful could be taken as it's annoyance, but that doesn't make the first comment make much sense. It could mean stressful in the context of having his attacks so frequently dodged is slowly wearing his stamina out. Katakuri seems like the one least likely to play around.

 

It's not like "trying" is one fixed variable. He may not be trying hard, but to not be trying at all I don't think is true to a threat he wants to wipe out. I think he will outmatch gear 4th putting him a bit above Doffy.

 

Plausible but he seems tilted that he's not hitting Luffy, why keep not trying? That's why it doesn't make sense, unless Oda threw that in there because he realised he was making it too hard to write him out of where he was going?
