They love socialism only when it suits them, eh?

The less population thing is a BS excuse and done with. What matters more is population density. Thailand, Vietnam, Japan have all proven that mixed economies can work in a high population dense nation. Also, those nations have a high standard of living because of their successful economic systems, not the other way around.

You'd have to be a monumental Yank to take a lower tax bracket and give up free healthcare, education, pension, and so much else.

    Oh, no, taxes! Scary!

    ---

And before anyone brings up the spectre of "government run services are poor quality" and such nonsense:
They do this on purpose so they can privatize down the line. It's planned obsolescence. The perfect examples of this are the USPS, Polish healthcare, even some shit going down with the UK NHS.

Yati Narasinghanand at it again with calls for genocide and also armed revolt against the central government if a non-Hindu becomes PM. Yet, there are no sedition cases against him. Only 153A and that's all. The man threatened armed conflict against the government of India if the election results were not to his liking, and yet we liberals have to worry about being branded urban Naxals and dragged off to jail under UAPA and with no prospects for bail for legitimate and peaceful dialogue against this regime.

I remember when Shah and Bharathi accused the UPA of spying on them and tapping their phones.

Then it turns out that when he was in power, Shah went ahead and used a foreign agency's spyware to snoop on activists, opposition party members, even SC justices and chief justices.

The next accusation that these chaddi wearing cow fuckers spew against a political opponent or critic, I will automatically assume it to be a confession. I have been maintaining this stance since 2019.

Fascists the world over appear to be the same.

Just look at the Republicans; they accused the Democrats of being part of a global cabal of Satan-worshipping paedophiles. Since 2016 over 700 members (yes, seven hundred members) of the Republican party have been pulled up on charges ranging from child porn possession to rape to trafficking of minor girls.

Same story with Putin, Bolsonaro, and Viktor Orban.

Fact is you compared with Japan is an issue here.

Thailand and vietnam are growing economies. These countries do have population density you need to check urban cities it's easy to concentrate .

Japan post world war 2 was built on rapid industrialization . India missed that train because of socialist policies of Nehru .

Also to the point the current ruling is more or less upa2 govt . They are concentrating on welfare schemes.

However it all comes with cost India needs rapid industrialization and growth in tier 2 cities as well. It can become like sri lanka which is suffering through high inflation.

Also it's easy to central regime but turns out this government is no different than older congress regimes who were known for welfare .

I think india should discard western democracy model clearly it's not working. I prefer meritocracy regimes similar to line of singapore .

Singapore did well with high population density as well .

That is because healthcare should be choice . I would prefer govt let's citizen have choice what healthcare they need to have .

For poor I think they deserve free healthcare .Given India lags behind health infrastructure govt should either team up with private organizations to revamp country's healthcare system .

I am skeptical of government run hospitals because of bureaucracy and inefficiency in handling cases. Even sweden,Denmark have failed during pandemic regime . Most of cancer treatments had to be delayed because covid was pushed as priority.

Coming to NHS my sister in law works as medical worker. She tells me the back log cases are huge and you need appointment and time to meet your doctor. This was during pre pandemic period . Post pandemic has highlighted how private healthcare is so important these days because even efficient healthcare like NHS have flaws .

Hence I dont think NHS model will work well with developing countries. Unfortunately seeing how post brexit UK's economy is dipping down its matter of time they will be forced to revamp their NHS.

Yeah, blame Nehru for getting us started on Industrialization in the first place. Do what this spit-**** is doing and blame a guy who has been dead six decades for his failures.

Only for votes. Their tax receipts after adjusting for the ridiculous inflation they have caused with their Reaganomics falls short of UPA2 levels, which means they can't even pay for the welfare schemes they like to bash privately (the most notable examples being their inability to pay for CGHS and MGNREGA). At least the UPA2 had the tax receipts to fund their welfare schemes and they lifted people out of poverty. Modi reversed all of the UPA2's gains by 2018-19, which saw India's highest unemployment rate since 1975 as well as 76 million new people added to below poverty line (and these are figures released by Modi's own regime a day after his swearing in for his second term, by the way, which means the actual figures might be even worse).

And they can't even use the pandemic as an excuse, as these figures are for 2017-18 i.e. two to three years before the pandemic. And we've only slid further down since then.

Comparing the current NDA to UPA2 makes no sense to me. It's like comparing centre-left economic regimes to Reagan's tenures. They're vastly different, with the NDA relying on welfare schemes and communal polarization only to take away from their monumentally disastrous handling of our economy.

Modi has undone over a hundred environmental and labour regulations since coming to power, leading to wage growth stagnation and an out of control corporate sector that is sucking India dry both environmentally and economically. There is also the undoing of various banking regulations (something Reagan also did) allowing his cronies like Baba Ramdev to walk away with the money of SBI and PNB, and Sitharaman selling our banks off to non-existent-lord-knows-who. He has given 1.6 to 2 lakh crore in tax cuts to corporates and the super-rich while shifting that burden to the middle class via a predatory GST system that hurts small players and through direct tax as well.

Don't compare UPA2 and the current NDA. I was a CA student who studied closely both governments' handling of the Indian economy. I even did a huge-ass project report on the black economy under the UPA for my graduation from BBM. The two regimes' handling of the Indian economies are vastly different. One leaned centre-left, while the other is leaning further and further right and neo-liberal.

Excuse me for being highly sceptical about the "even Sweden and Denmark failed during the pandemic" thing. I have a friend in Denmark, a cousin studying in Sweden, another cousin and a childhood friend working in Finland, German brother-in-law who worked in Denmark during the pandemic, and Nordic friends on imgur who boast about how well those nations are doing with their healthcare compared to literally the rest of the planet.

An aunt of mine (mom's younger sister), her husband, her daughter all work for the NHS. They too have complained of budget cuts and backlogs becoming more of a problem during the last several years. This seems by design; that planned obsolescence thing I mentioned.
